If you're using the glass type that you fill and turn upside down, you have to fill it to the top and then push the cork in and make sure the fluid squirts out when you do this. It's like burping it. That is the only way to stop them from leaking. The directions never tell you to do this, but that's how they're made to work. I've never had a problem with the 5 that I use. I buy the blown glass ones that are so decorative. I love them! I soak the tubes and clean them out with a Q tip. Never had problems with ants or bees. Good luck in your search and trial!

I have used the saucer ones for about 10 years. Only problem is with rain it can get into the food. But I will take that because the ease of cleaning is great.
Just had my first hummer on Sunday. It's a boy! He was just eating and snow flakes were falling on him. Where is Spring and the sun?

I have the Best-1 feeder which is really easy to clean. I have both the 8 oz. and 32 oz. bottles, although I don't fill up the 32-oz. bottle. It's made in Texas. I purchased mine online.

I don't even remember where we got ours, but it's really old and thankfully it has never leaked.

I was looking out the window on Saturday and told my hubby that I swear I just saw a hummingbird buzz by. He didn't believe me, but he made the nectar and put it out. Sure enough, they came on Sunday!

This is what I have. They are great. Bees and ants don't bother them either.

I really like the hummingbirds. A couple of days ago when the weather turned cold, the hummingbirds came by the bunches. I had to put out another feeder to accomodate all of them. So love to watch them. Hope they all stay around.

I purchased one of the saucer-shaped ones at WildBirds Unlimited last fall to replace my ceramic one. I chose the high perch one that puts the little perch bar up slightly above the feeding holes. I've never had so many visitors before; they seem to love it! Had some trouble over the winter (in the PNW, the Anna's Hummingbirds are year-round residents) having to bring it in overnight to prevent freezing, and the female hummer would hover in front of the kitchen window as if to say, Well? Where is it? Easy to clean, well in middle to keep out ants. We have a hook bolted to our upper deck that it hangs from.

A month ago, some of my daughters friends (late teens) were over and saw the female hummer feeding. They asked what kind of bird that was and didn't believe it was a hummingbird until she flew off. They'd never seen one perched before!

I use the glass one from Perky Pet. Bought them on the net about a year ago for $15 or $16. I use talcum powder on the top. Ants will not cross that powder. I read chalk will work also.
I keep my feeders in the shade, one under an arbor and one under the patio roof.
I took the flowers out and enlarged the holes and put a larger tray
on the bottom
( one of those sm. round plastic dishes from the old microwave dinners) Use caution when screwing in on the bottom..or it will leak too.
Now the Orioles use it too.

What do you use for Ant Guards? I don't have a problem with my feeder leaking except when I have to turn it upside down to refill it but there are tons of ants that crawl down the hook and chain and get stuck in the nectar. Are the ants good for the hummingbirds (protein maybe?) or do they just not bother with them?
