Every time I go to my local Joanns to buy something on sale, the items don't actually ring up on sale. Just happened today when I went to buy some quilting books -- supposed to be 40% off, and it rang up full price. I've learned to watch things like a hawk.

Joanns isn't the only place you have to be careful and watch, WalMart and Target can goof too! (Ask me how I know...)

Weezie (that's me!) checks EVERY receipt before she leaves ANY store. This is because she used to check them when she got home and had put her purchases away ... BIG MISTAKE!

It's so convenient to catch the error(s) before I ever leave the store. Joann's receipt is so confusing (particularly if there are fabric purchases, coupons, sale prices involved) that I usually have to have it deciphered for me by the clerk, item by item.

I love the "check your receipt" advice! They ring up so quickly now, so it's hard to catch, but errors do happen, so check your receipt before you leave the store. Get it fixed if it needs it. Retailers are only human too. Everything is computerized, so they're not doing this to torment you personally. If they're not open to fixing their own errors, it's time to find another store. They deserve to lose your business if they can't make it right. And no, we're not asking for extra fabric, or for them to honor expired coupons or give us free quilt patterns. We just want basic customer service.

Te he.. DH and I always have trouble deciphering Joanns receipts. But I love a bargain (I feel so virtuous 8-)) so I always check receipts everywhere to make sure I got the discounts and sales prices that I expected when I decided to purchase the items.

Last time I went to JoAnns (45 miles away) I was going to buy notions on a "buy one get one free" sale. There were 2 or 3 other ladies standing there too, picking out needles, pins, and fusicle interfacings. We all followed each other up to the checkout and went to the parking lot about the same time. I got into my car and checked my receipt.... they seemed to have rung it up wrong. I got out of my car, and sure enough, the other two ladies were going back into the store also! We all went to the cashier together to say that they had not given us the correct prices. It turned out that somewhere on the store sign, it said "the free item would be the lowest priced item". It certaintly didnt say that in the ad, or on my coupon, so I figured it was a true "buy one get one free" sale. So if I bought two of the things I needed (two packs of needles, two packs of interfacing) I would get the second one free. NOPE. SO, I returned everything and asked her to give me cash back. I then proceeded to purchase everything in sets of two and pay for them that way with the cash she gave me back. That way I really did get the second item free. It really pissed me off! The ladies in back of me then followed my lead and did the same thing! The clerk was nice, and said she knew where we were coming from, and said that the highest management knew this was a problem but hadnt done anything about it. My other coupons rang up right... the percentage off ones. BUT I do watch them like a hawk, as someone else said!

I also have about about a 45 mile drive to Joanne's. I've discovered that there is a vast difference in competence and desire to give excellent service from one employee to the next, even within the same location. Although the one girl who seemed to not give a care didn't stay long...guess they did have to let her work the 90 day trial period before they let her go???

However the only thing local is Wal-mart and we all know what a mixed blessing that can be, although ours usually has better selection than many of the larger ones, as we petitioned hq to let ours retain a good fabric dept because of there being nothing else within 30 - 45 mi.

I rarely go to JoAnn's in my town for several reasons, even though it is closer to my house than three other fabric shops. Mainly because every time I do go in and buy something, I leave wishing I'd driven right by. They rearranged everything about 6 months ago and their quilting fabric quality has degraded hugely. I won't even consider buying any quilting fabric from them now. At the cutting table you have to take a paper number in order to get waited on. The check-out line sends you thru a maze of ropes (similar to the roped off area in an airport before you go through security) to then wait for one of the 4 cashier stations. I've never been there when more than one cashier was open to help customers, it doesn't seem to matter how many people are waiting in line either. If you happen to want to wander around, they have the fabric stacked so high up, that you can't see through, to see what's on the far side. There are not enough workers to help you find anything. I haven't bought fabric from this store in several years, so have no recollection of how accurate they are with cutting a length of fabric.

I went in to Joann's today, I always asked myself why I do this and again today I asked myself the same question. Didn't have any wooly nylon thread. Didn't see anythng else I needed, I did buy a seam ripper and used my 40% off on it. I just prefer Hancock's!
