It appears that there are quilt police right here on the board
Whooooooooooa! Ghostie was only trying to help you!

Rules are part of life ... because someone asks you about the rules, does not make them into Quilt Police.
BTW Guilds and Guild Shows are notorious for having rules!!!!!!
And often OCD rules that go overboard ........... of course, JIMHO!

And I'll echo ... if you don't ask what the rules/guidelines are, please do not assume there were none, nor that a specific rule was not spelled out.

**I guess, I'll go and sit in the QP corner with Ghostie now**

I have no problem with rules, but how can they be rules if no one ever tells you about them beforehand???? All of this should have been clearly stated in the registration information prior to the actual show.

Some rules are very useful - such as driving on your half of the highway/street - and just because they aren't printed or displayed at every intersection - is not a good reason for not being aware of them.

I would want anything I made that I entered into a fair or show labeled to improve the odds of getting it back and avoiding mixups.

It does seem reasonable to me that whoever is running the show would want/expect the label for a show quilt to be located in a consistent place. That way if they are in a stack face down, one could just flip up the same corner to get the info instead of having to play hide and seek for the label.

I think I've noticed that ALL the participants in a given contest seem to be 'labeled' in a consistent way.

    Welcome Quilt Mountie!

Without rules, holding a quilt show would be like herding chipmunks...only not as much fun.

My mom used to always volunteer to check in crafts at our county fair. It is a hard job. And mostly thankless. She has plenty of stories of people not reading, not understanding, or not complying with the written rules and plenty of stories about the fair book not being well written so questions of interpretation would cause problems. So, thanks to the lady for helping out at the fair to the best of her ability.

I just appliquéed a quilt label on a quilt for a show that required my name, address and phone number and they stated the label could be pieced or appliquéed but "on the back" was the only directive as to location. The thing that seriously bugs me is the address and phone number! I don't think those two bits of info add much to the aesthetic of my quilt.

I like the idea of upside down so the white glove lady can show it!

No, no, no! Don't let this thread discourage you. I wanted to enter becuase I never had before, and thought even though I wouldn't win (I have seen other people's quilts and know I am still not to that level), but thought any judges comments would help me learn. And a show is no good if there are only a few quilts - it needs alot!

I have posted pics of the show:

And despite this quilt having the label on the top - I got a 3rd place ribbon!
