Oh, you're a hoot for sure. We need to meet soon. And maybe we can drag MadQuilter to the party. :-D

Marie Osmond is the specialist. To me she is just another 'Martha Stewart'. She has her 'name/hands' into everything, but can't really do it all.

Yes, Marie has a broader celebrity name then Kaye. And maybe Marie can sew, but Kaye is a sew-er/quilter!!

Would you or your none sewing friends purchase a machine just because someone is a celebrity????

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

1 - Hey! I like this woman's style! Maybe I can do this stuff too if it doesn't have to be so rigid!
2. - Hmmm, wonder who cleans up after??

I thinks she's cute.

someone else has to come along and pick up after her
Maybe she cleans up after, but most likely a paid staffer does it as part of the job.
Wonder if they just sweep up, or if they pick out everything over 1"x1" -- Like me!!!

My first quilt was a Kaye Wood's pattern. Love her techniques. Maybe, Kaye will endorse another sewing machine brand.

With Marie's family & appearances, I doubt if she has little time to even sew. And, no, I would not buy just because it was endorsed by a celebrity. I get recommendations, and do a lot of research before I purchase anything expensive.

My goodness! What does a $10000 sewing machine do? You know, I have my little featherweight that I bought in the early 50's, my very first machine. I've made clothing, drapery, bedding, quilts, and leather carseats. I think I paid $200 for it, a lot of money back then. The salesman said to me, "never get rid of this one, it will always be worth what you are paying for it". Now, I've had a few more machines since that I used a lot, but I still have that first one, and I still use it sometimes, and from what I see, it is still worth what I paid for it. But I WOULD like to know what $10000 gets you.

That's an interesting train of thought. I had a New Home sewing machine for the longest time, $400 and a good machine but not worth that much money; still have it and it still sews fine, but not so slick as the new machines.

Then Santa brought me a little surprise Brother 270D one Christmas and I loved it. Nice stitching and nice embroidery, just small. Great for classes, but did not want to go back and forth with the setup for the embroidery and the sewing.

Went up to a $3500 Bernina 440QE and after a hard learning curve to sew with it, plus being so heavy and accessories so expensive, just had it serviced and set for embroidery with rayon thread, and that's all I use it for.
Unless I want to sew 5 or 6 thickness of denim or whatnot, you can't beat a Bernina as a workhorse.

Then when my dear best friend and then my daughter came to visit me on rare trip when I lived so very far away,
I purchased 2 little Brother 6000i machines at WM for less than $90 each so we could sew together on normal quilting stuff, and now guess what: the things are light and accurate and very dependable and majorly portable, so that's what I end up sewing with most of the time!

Go figure.

whether we personally like celebrities or not, we at least remember who they are, which is what marketing folks are all about...Why does Eleanor throw things over her shoulder? Not a lot of people know, but most quilters who have seen her show know who she is by that action...Does Marie Osmond sew and quilt, who cares...lots of people know who she is from her musical career and for that reason many will connect with the product she endorses...and marketing people like folks who remember their "front man". I have my favorites and my un-favorites, but still need to make decisions based on facts, not faces.
We;ve all got opinions, I appreciate being able to share them with the group and can only say that I'm the only one responsible for the way I feel about the ones I read...I'm sure no one intentionally says anything here that is intended to put anyone down.

I"m just too old to go out and buy another sewing machine now, but when I read things on this forum about all the different stitches and things on the newer ones, I do dream a little. My niece bought an embroidery machine for her very first sewing machine , and while she can't sew clothing, she really got into putting ermbroidfery on everything. LOL Now she is doing some quilting. Her first try was a king size. She machine quilted it, and when I asked her how it came out( I had a very bad experience when I tried machine quilting), she said it was great and so easy. But then, she said she didn't worry about the pleats and such on the back side, they don't show! I had a good laugh at that, but I am so proud of her and all she has learned to do. I"ve taught her a lot over the internet and the phone, and we laugh a lot together.
