The first person you should please is yourself. You will never be 100% proud of everything you do. I am very critical of myself but othes say I do a good job. I just keep working at it and sometimes I really like my work and sometimes I really hate it so I am learning if I enjoy doing it and take pride in it then that is half the battle. Just relax and they day will come when you will say, OMG, that is beautiful, I can't believe I did it. Good Luck.

I h ave been trying like you for yrs. it just doesn't get any better and I challenge myself all the time. I can't sew a straight line, and if or when I ever get a scant 1/4" seam you will hear me all the way to the east coast. I am careful when I cut, do all the right things have even taken several on going classes. I guess I am just not going to ever be much better than I am right now. I am so discouraged.

Please don't get discouraged. One day things will just click. I thought I would never be good at it and I still have a hard time picking colors. I take as many classes at my LQS as I can but some things are just out of my league and know if I try them I will really be upset like the Judy Neimeyer paper piecing. I signed up for a class, bought the pattern and as I was reading it I realized it was just to much money to start and probably not finish so the quilt shop owner was kind enough to refund my money for the class which was $l25.00 then the pattern was $35.00 and was going to cost almost $300.00 for the fabric as it was going to take many yards. I am very glad I didn't stress myself to do it. Just do what you feel comfortable doing and don't worry about it. One day you will do something and can't believe you did that. So tough it out a while longer.

So go on and enjoy what you do. You've heard of the Quilt Police, haven't you? Those are folks who lurk in the darkness and try to drag everyone down to their mental level. Don't let them get you down.

GO on and make anything your heart desires, make it in flaming reds and oranges if that makes you happy. Make it in just plain black with black thread through it if it makes YOU happy.

You'll feel good when you make what you like, when you like, for whom you like, and be sure to make yourself something to love. That's what WE"RE here for, to learn and help others learn.
    Well said Ramona.

And, there are lots of classes available to take you to the next level! I take as many as I can because each teacher has a different set of 'tips' to help you along the path - learn from them all!

You said it, so what's the problem? Sometimes it's all about the journey. You enjoy it and that's enough! (Plus we are our own worst critics!!!!!!)
