I am not a thread snob

and so far my Bailey (as well as the shortarm before I got the Bailey) has been very accepting of different threads. I did learn the hard way that rayon is NOT good for LA quilting...better used for embroidery, though. Superior Threads is a great source of information.

I have a Viking Mega Quilter 18/8 and it does not like Aurafil one bit. It does love Guttermann, and YLI. I only use cotton thread on mine, haven't tried any poly as of yet. But one day I was doing a quilt that needed a neutral thread, which I did not have. I put some of that thread that WalMart carries, on the larger cones, and it liked it. Go figure.

Thanks for the site for Glide thread. I know Mark Sherman uses it too and his quilts are beautiful. Think I'll give it a try.

Haven't had any problems with top thread but my machine can be a little touchy if it doesn't like the bobbin thread. I usually use brother on the blue spool. Last time I had a voucher I stocked up.

I use mostly Superior Threads. I use most of their lines. (Sew Fine, Rainbow, King Tut, etc) I use thread as another embellishment and to enhance the design of the quilt and the quilting.

I have an HQ16 and am fortunate enough to be able to run anything thru it. Even metallic, which is what sold me on my machine. I do love Superior King Tut thread for most projects but if I don't want a heavy thread look to my quilting I go with a finer thread. I like the Connecting Threads longarm thread in that for that.

There are so many kinds of thread you can use. I' 've even used server thread on mine. Superior Thread has lots of different ones too. They even have cones of cotton for long arm machines. Go to their site and check it out. I bought some Glide cones a couple of years ago and that works for me too. The Glide is polyester and has the shiney look.

Superior Thread is 'King Tut' sew fine' and bottomline' and they have a bobbin winder set up right there at the plant in Utah, USA. they also have awsome silk thread and many specialty threads.....the web site is a favorite 'dreaming' spot for me. several of my friends have Long Arm machines and they are all different brands but they all use Superior Thread and some of them have even been to the classes in Utah. check out the website:

I have an A-1 and I use anything almost but I love YLI. It has great colors and verigated colors and is made in the USA. There is 3000 yards on a cone instead of 2000 on King Tut and they look the same tex to me and run the same. YLI runs about $16 a cone and King Tut is $24. I also use ConnectingThreads cones and spools with great success. I also use serger thread if it's the right color and on charity quilts.
