One of the Grand Forks thrift stores (the ARC) has a Singer Touch & Sew #603e, in a cabinet, with many attachments, and two instruction books. One booklet is for normal sewing with all the cams (two different sets) and attachments, and one booklet is for using the machine's special attachments to do "chain stitching." I read the book, quickly, but didn't understand everything.

The machine was marked "works" but I did not have time to try it. It is in a large cabinet with two deep drawers to the left. It has a foot pedal, knee control, presser feet, several bobbins, the chain-stitch bobbin cover and related hook/doo-dads, a binder attachment, etc.

Is this something you would want? It is marked $100.

If I have time after my dental appt. today, I'll try to get better photos. This one is from the web.

This is also from the web, but it shows the cabinet that the Singer 603e is in.

I would prefer the 603 - the gold one is worth a lot less than that.

As for what I intend to do with it? Mostly I just look at them and collect parts for them. I'm pretty undemanding of most of my machines LOL!!
If you know of a farmer with a seed cleaner in your area, check with him or her. I'd never given it much thought, but a cousin did seed cleaning for all the neighbors. Most of the contraption was his own invention, but one of his grandsons was an expert on it's operation, and the one to stitch the bags closed at the end of the process. I wonder what all those old cotton gins used.

Welcome aboard Annielynn. You're on the right track bribing your husband with tools.
I actually almost like that desk though I'm not a huge fan of the style. It has a nice big sewing area and good storage where it's easy to get to.
$100 seems like a lot of money and you can buy those machines for less but you're not going to buy a new machine as nice as that for the same money. The cams and accessories help too. Figure $20 or more for those if you had to buy them separately. The price isn't completely unreasonable. Are they going to have any sales soon or will they negotiate? 603s are good machines. All metal gears inside, later Touch & Sews have nylon gears that are prone to failure.

What's really funny - I now have at least seven machines that will chainstitch - proves that some people don't know when to quit.

You're right about that. My weakness is pretty much any old straight stitch machine. For some reason they call to me more than the more modern machines.

I think this post has inspired me. I have a Kenmore 158 with the chain stitch attachment and I've never tried to chain stitch anything! I might try something new.
