I can see removing paint from a machine that needs it ... but re-paint it (or sell as a "needs repaint", not a "cool bare metal" machine). Then again .. he might be playing to the steampunk crowd.

But poly on the wood?? And he didn't even bother to repair the veneers first. I suspect he also just slapped the poly right over the existing finish.

LOL Steve. You are right. That machine is a pretty machine and auntpigglypn is right too, it does look like it was well taken care of and hardly used. I would like to have that machine. Too far for me to drive from Chicago to go look at it though. :D

Singer and sewing machine seem to be the same thing for lots of folk.
