Just choose which cities are closest to you. When you open that page do a 'search' for "sewing machines" in the box for search. That will bring up all sewing machines that are for sale on that city's Craigslist. Good luck in your search.

MarieM, I paid $60 for my 301 and she's worth every penny. Perfect stitch, FMQs well. If you can get one for less, that'd be good, but it really depends on what it's worth to you. IMO, you buy the tan one to sew with. It isn't exactly a 'show' machine.

I've paid as little as $50.00 for a 301 (with a cabinet) from CL but I've also paid over $200.00 for a couple (no cabinet) that I purchased from Cathy Forcino on her website. Now that I know how to clean them up myself I'm not sure I would pay that much again.

The fact that the 301, that you saw in the thrift shop, has a cabinet is good. The cabinets aren't as easy to find as the machines are. Find out the condition and price and keep us updated!

For those of you who have a Singer 237 with drop feed dogs, how do you like it for FM quilting? It has zig zag for applique too, just not fancy stitches. I need to find a model that works for both.

FW folks: help is needed. I am the proud owner of an original penguin walking foot. Today, I decided to try to see about using it (I've been too intimidated to touch the thing since I saw how much they are worth ...mentioned to DH today they had gone up to $ 650-he said sell it, I said what are you crazy????, I'll never find another).

From info I found on line, and from holding the penguin up to the shaft, it looks like the thread cutter must come off. I tried pulling it down with my fingers and a screwdriver. It will turn around the shaft but is not moving down and I don't want to score the shaft too badly. Any suggestions? Thanks, I know one of you will have the perfect solution! :)

That round front access plate is a giveaway for a National. Standard also made a Leader, and New Home made an Our Leader. I will go back and take another look, but I'm betting it's a National Paveway model.

When I took a good look at the decal, I realized it's the Dragon--love that decal!! I have 3 or 4 of those around here somewhere (!) just because of it!! I need to find those. . . I know for sure I have at least one in a handcrank, and I believe I have two--one with a metal base and one with wooden.
