The machine I am restoring is a Singer 99-13. I don't have photo's of that since my camera bit the dust last week. I do however have a couple of photo's of a machine I picked up a couple of weeks age at a garage sale for $20.00. This is a De Luxe classic sewing machine. From what I have read so far about this machine is that it was made in Japan as a knockoff of the singer machine. This machine is in awsome shape. I have been sewing on it since it came in the door. Last week I was lucky enough to find the cabinet at my local Salvation Army store for $25.00. More then I really wanted to spend...but...it is in excellent shape and I am enjoying sewing on the machine so much I wanted to have it set up for easy access. Now I am not having to move machines from one place to another. I did have to make a few minor adjustments to the cabinet. The machine will not be able to fold down because there doesn't seem to be anyplace for mounting screws on the bottom of the machine. But that is no problem...I enjoy looking at it. I didn't make the machine a permanent fixture to the cabinet so...if I want to make it portable I just pick up the machine and move it back to it's carrying case. The Necchi is clean and sews a perfect seam. There is tiny click coming from the underside. It's still there without the needle or bobbin case, so I can rule out those two. There is a minor burr in the part that holds the bobbin case. I will try to smooth it and see what happens. That was one lint packed machine. The finish shows some wear, but that only means she was well used to me. Later when she gets waxed, that will help. Her name is Sophia. She wanted Stella, but that's not a good idea. My son's first wife was Stella - little, strong and pretty like the machine, but his second wife might not appreciate a machine with that name. Sophia it is.
She will get a workout now. I started a Jewel Box quilt. AnnieRose (301) has a quarter inch guide attached, so Sophia can make the HSTs and any other sewing that isn't 1/4". |

Only thing missing is the piece of cabinet that fills the hole when machine is down in the cabinet. I probably won't put it down anyway. Thanks again for this find. It was clean too. Won't need spa treatment at all just a little dusting off.

Lee231, Congratulations on your that nice Domestic. Although my cabinet has 4 side drawers, and the irons are slightly different, our machines look about the same. http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-103544-1.htm Note the absence of the thread feeder wheel for the bobbin? That was included on the later models. The cabinet was "refinished" with a low quality paint, so that'll be a chore for me. I replaced the belt just before my knee replacement last month, and the feed was smooth and even, but I haven't done any piece work on it yet. I've been cleaning three other treadles, getting them ready for their new cabinets while the leg recoups. I think my new knee should be just about ready to start treadling. I may try it on some strips this evening.

Look forward to seeing after the spa treatment. I have never tried to refinish a cabinet because I never ever keep them of that my machines come in a really nice cabinet already. But I have several that I need to refinish so I guess I will be schooled in refinishing before it is over with. And Lisa I really want to go stand in front of your garage when you toss the door open. :P Billy |
