A Quilting Series is scheduled for Spring 2012, to be shown first in the Portland, Oregon area on Public Broadcasting TV. Filming begins mid-January. If it is well watched there is potential for expansion.
WHAT would YOU like to see on the program? We would like the series to cover what WE QUILTERS would like to see.

1. Personally, I would like to see more coverage on different techniques. Doing the same star, rail fence, and nine patch gets old. There are so many new things out there that need to be demonstrated in a step by step manner. Patterns are often very confusing and edited by NON-Quilters who do not pick up on that fact.
2. Another thing I would like to see is a section on reviews of new products that are introduced to the quilting market. It would be wonderful to have 50 -100 people across the country/world try the item and then give it a review. I can't tell you how many useless items/rulers/squares I have purchased and then been disappointed when I actually tried to use them.
3. I would like a section dedicated to correcting mistakes in patterns that are out there on the market. I know it is a logistical nightmare to get the info out to the masses, but just a small blurb and the mention of a website or something would be better than nothing. How many of us have wasted fabric because the cutting instructions were inaccurate or the yardage was inadequate?

I would like to see some attention paid to the level of competence of the quilters out here. Some are beginners, some intermediate, some advanced and some just plain out-of sight! For instance, maybe at the beginning of each session it could be announced that this session will suit those who consider themselves at the level of: ie, beginner, intermediate, etc. so, if the planned activity is at a "five" level and you are only at a two or three, you might want to tape it for a later viewing and gain a little more practice before you tackle that particular pattern. Hope this makes sense...

I agree with you momto5. They could also do a different level on each day of the week ie: Mon - beginner, tues - intermediate, wed - advanced, thurs - expert, and friday could be the day they review the products and patterns.

I would like a reminder when they start airing, please! I like anything to do with quilting and will look forward to this.

I agree...most quilting programs are/were geared toward those who are already expert quilters or pretty close to it....

As a new quilter with a small stash something geared towards a small wall hanging or something that can be completed in a short amount of time. Accomplishing something is a huge motivator.

Funny, I think they are/were just the opposite...aimed at beginners and very boring to watch for the most part.

Techniques that can be adapted to a wide variety of projects would be great, instead of something that just shows how to make a single project. Many techniques can be used at different skill levels with different results. Kind of a "teach a man to fish" idea.

I'm looking forward to watching the show. Do you think it will only be on Saturdays or throughout the week?

I love watching anything to do with quilting but especially enjoy learning how to use new products for quilting.

I have watched plenty of demonstrations of HSTs, flying geese, strip piecing, and all those beginner techniques. I would love to see some traditional appliqué, curved piecing, FMQ lessons, the more advanced stuff that no one does. I'm excited to see a new quilt show. Please post when it will premier. I'm in Oregon and get OPB.
