I'm a newbie! I have lots of questions! Especially on FQ's and HST's, binding, patterns and block ideas.... fabric selection you name it I have a question!

I started a quilt in 2006 and I haven't quilted since. I am really trying to quilt again! The quilt I made is puzzling me, I can't figure out how to finish it. the borders on the sides.... (where can I post pictures for some help?) I have friends and family having babies and weddings left and right and I would love to quilt for them!

FQ= 18"x22" of fabric, NOT 1/4 cut of a bolt.
Here is a good video tutorial link for 1/2 square triangles.

Hope this helps, if not, please be more specific on questions.

I have been quilting for around 2 years, and am fairly proficient in Rotary cutting, basic fun fast patterns to make, old sewing machine info(or you can ask lostin51) and I do my own machine quilting. I do my sewing on treadle sewing machines - all older then me!

I'm not good at Paper Piecing, and I am adopted for that. Thank you! I prefer to communicate in email, so send me a message with your email address(or I can send you mine) and I'll see what I can do to help!

I have a "new deal" treddle sewing machine, and I don't know anything about it, but would LOVE to be able to do a basic quilt on, just to say I did it. I also have this old "feather weight"? Which I've seen a couple ladies bring to a quilt retreat, and again, have no idea what do to (threading, bobbin, tension). If you know of a link, or tutorial, I'd appreciate it...or could walk me through some information... and how to properly use the peddle to stitch smoothly. I will be using it ONLY for a scrappy quilt, so at least if I mess up (in the beginning) I won't be upset wasting expensive material. This is exciting, just hearing you make your quilts on this machine, I've got a goal now for this winter...try the machine out for sure. Thanks

What are you looking to make first? Just using the basic
squares gives you the chance to match seems, and are
you interested in hand quilting or machine?

Yes, a simple squares quilt, nothing hard, about a full size or lap, just to learn on this treadle machine first. And the treadle machine is my interest. I've had 5 surgeries on R hand, 2 on L hand (still healing in a brace yet), and surgery coming up on both eyes in Dec., so anything hand sewn is not an option...I can't even see to cross stitch or embroidery any more, can't crochet either... so I have an embroidery machine, lots of light, and seam allowance guides to keep me strait. Determination! I'll not let those doctors keep me down yet...

You go girl! The disappearing nine patch would be good for
you. Do you know that pattern?

You sew 5" squares - three across and three down
so you have a nine patch square. Then you cut it
right down the middle vertically and horizontally.
That gives you four blocks. Now you can arrange
them any way you want. You can use 4 darks,
and 5 lights for each 9" block. Or you can just
use three materials, putting the main print in the
corners of the nine patch, and use the same material
for the 5 squares, then use an other one for the center.
The center block becomes your little block. Look
on line, key in Disappearing Nine patch, there are pictures
discribing the project. Good Luck...
