Small world--I was born (and ended back up in) Wichita Falls. Lived in Denton for a while when young, then went back and spent a couple of years at UNT myself. Decatur seems so big now! It has such a pretty court house and square.

Like the idea of the crochet spool pin pad.
The last time I was in Decatur I did not recognize the place. The square and court was the only thing that looked the same. When I was living there the population was only 3000. I could not even find my way around Denton. Glad you like the crochet spool pin pad it makes the machine look better than the red felt.
Yes the world is getting smaller.

Yes, it probably is one of the Chinese or Taiwanese repros... you can tell by the bright gold decals in the Craigslist ad. They have some weird colors that let you know they are not the old originals.

It's DEFINITELY not worth the $250 they want... I have heard the materials they are made with are not as durable as the originals, but I can't say for sure since I don't own one.

I don't have a pattern for them, I just did them while watchin TV but I can make one for you. I will have to go count the stitches and will post them later. They are real easy to make.

Glenn, I would be interested in the pattern also. Have plenty of missing spool pads on my vintage gals. Are they crocheted with the steel hooks by any chance? I have my grandmother's and love making things with them. Thanks, Chris

Thank you but I can't do everything but I try to my wife's dismay. Okay lets see if I can get the pattern right. Use steel crochet hook #7 and of course crochet thread.

Chain 10, slip stitch in last chain to make the circle.
Round 1-Chain three double crochet twice(first double crochet cluster) chain three, double crochet three times, chain three repeat five times. you will have have six double crohet clusters with chain three between each one.
Round 2-slip stitch to the middle double crochet, chain six, slip stich in the center of next cluster repeat aroung bind off.
If you have any question just ask.

Yep, you are right about the antique stores. There are several antique stores here I have visited only to be told they no longer accept treadles/or antique sewing machines because they can't sell them. The ones I have found, though, don't seem to want to come down on their prices! The machines just sit there - sometimes for years. I never find a decent machine at the thrift stores here either. I find mine on CL or estate/yard/barn sales.

Nancy

PS Charlee, I would have offered $150, but I really don't 'need' another treadle. I just figured for the right price I'd get it!

I have been watching a Davis VF in one our stores for three years. They want $300 for it but will not come down. You would think they would bargin just to get rid of it from taking up space.
