Nanamoms, that's a generous offer to share your book. The pages I will need are about the settings for the different stitches.

Jan, I will soak the flywheel cover first to see how the decals hold up. I really don't think I will need to soak the whole machine. I am slowly getting the tarry coating off. I had planned oin setting the base in kerosene. If I lose any decals on the bed, I'm not losing much. The former owner put in a lot of hours sewing on this one and those decals are pretty much worn away. I wish I could get the needleplate off, but those screws aren't budging. There is no rust anywhere so that's a plus.

miriam, I have no trouble changing the belt. I'm just having trouble getting the right one. The one the LQS sold me is 12 1/2" and I need a 14. Sew-classic here I come. I just wanted to use those stitches this week end. Next stop is to pirate the Admiral and see what size its belt is. My only other belted machine is the MW and it's in use. My others are gear driven. I can use the Elna for my applique if I have to. She does a pretty satin stitch but her buttonhole stitch goes in the wrong direction for applique.

That's different. Don't know why he bothered to do that when surrounding wood needs work.

Janice you will be missed at the TOGA. Have fun on you trip to TN and the wedding!

DFW LAVF Davis (I think) alert: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/atq/2868011011.html

Looks like a fixer-upper, but I haven't seen one browsing CL in that area yet.

Sew classic shows how to measure and how to fit the belt on her site. I can see where the 12 would be way too tight. Usually there is a bit of adjustment. I think I would stay clear of that store.

Another question - How do you pack a 29 pound machine with a bentwood case for shipping? I feel like I have too many machines, but I doubt if there is a market locally for my blackside 128.
