Good morning. Hope everyone is well. Very rainy and cool weather on the way.

How's this for ironic: MrJanRn played in a golf tournament Monday. At the dinner afterwards they drew names for door prizes--he won three: a large basket of gourmet chocolate, a case of some kind of beer that I've never heard of, and a hand made quilted table runner with placemats. Yes, the quilter's husband won the quilted item. It's cute--Penn State fabric (the sponsor of the tournament) with napkins, picnic silverware, glasses. I didn't ask him who won the golf tournament--I wanted to know who the quilter is that made this LOL.

Hi Everyone, Returned home yesterday afternoon after spending 3 days with my sister...didn't do very much except get my haircut & cleaned up a White brand Jeans machine for Dsis...She'll be taking it to Virginia so she can hem lots of pants for her son & Gkids.. I didn't have to do much to it..who ever had it kept it well oiled...it just smelled from tobacco smoke & some dust...
I sent all of you an email I thought was very cute..I hope you don't mind...
I'm starting to get the sniffles..I think I'll take some zinc for the next couple of days...

D_D, hope everything works out for you...

I made bread & butter pickles quite a few years ago and entered them at the county fair & got Honorable Mention ..It was the only time I made them!!

Today I'll be working on my flannel quilt..I WILL put the walking foot on the machine this time...I don't feel like switching out the machines.

Have a good day all of you..H.

Good for you Honchey; so glad JanRN thought of you. I loved the little message you sent; it brought a smile to my face this morning.

Its cool here; may have to put the heat on instead of the A/C. Peaches and Apples awaiting on me in the kitchen. Guess that is why I wanted an orchard and planted it when we first moved in. In denial of how old I feel this morning...did not know it would slow me down this much...or my limit on what to take on for its always been "I CAN" and not I don't know if I can ....and not yet to the "I cannot" stage because everyone knows cannots never do anything. Very seldom have I ever been bored in my life...always something I CAN do. Now to test the will power of getting it done today. Everyone have a good day.

I haven't made apple butter in about 10 years. My family has been pesterin' me ta make some. I have told each one that asks ta buy the apples & pick a day & I'll help 'em ta make some. So far no takers. Oh they all agree but never buy the apples. LOL Apple trees don't grow well here & if ya one o' any size it'll only make tiny apples. The other day I was thinkin' that if I could git my hands on some crab apples that I could try some crab apple butter.

PS I make a mean peach jam also.

Hi Dublb, Glad to see you're up and about!!! from what I understand it takes a lot of apples and a long time to cook??? there are tons of apples around here..We have about 5 commercial growers in our county...

I remember going to the cellar of one of my great aunts to get Jars of each jam. to make stove top apple pies..that was a lot of fun..you would butter white bread ,put it in the middle of 2 discs that were connected to handles.spoon the jam on one side, place the other slice on top, close it, trim the edges, then place on the gas grate to toast it then flip it over & toast the other side until it was cooked...gosh, they were sooogood...we always made a mess..thank goodness my older sister was there to supervise...we could have burned the house down!!

It was a good day here; 18 half pints of peach jam...limited sugar . 14 pints of gala apples ready to process in the morning. Apples were from our orchard. We also have a couple of crab apple trees with apples, but they are small.

New quilt store opening in the area...will see it tomorrow.

I just love the limited sugar peach Jam. It tastes more like peaches & less like jelly. Yes crab apples are small. Ya have ta take the stems off & cut 'em in half. Take the seads out then put 'em in the blender. It takes a bunch more ta make anythin' w/'em. I made a jam w/e'm once but have been thinkin' they'd make better butter than Jam. I haven't had a crab apple tree in ages!
    A new LQS!!!!! FUN!!!!!

It was a wonderful; new shop owned by a young lady who knows her quilting. She is a Gammill Long Arm trained Representative at Green City, Mo., on highway 63 called her shop: wildflower quilt shop, www.wildflowerquilting.com A Beautiful long arm comouterized quilter with examples in her store, well stocked and good prices...fabric, notions, quilting thread, etc. Does great work free handed or commercialized patterns or her own designs. If I were to take lessons, I go sign up with her. She will be in Houston at the International Show again this year. Whe has a Bernina commercial/industrial bindery machine in the back part. She has my stamp of approval and highest rating for a quilt shop. Just WOW. I did not buy any fabric....wooden nickels were not accepted anywhere. LOL!

Picked up chickfeed, delivered the eggs, and bought some more freestone large peaches at ninety-eight cents a pound. Walked into Casey's and they were stocking the shelves and let me have the small card boxes to ship my Christmas stuff in...right place at the right time....wow!! PW was a wonderful driver and I truly enjoyed her company today. She got her fabric at the new shop and promised to show me her top she makes out of it.

Canned 22 pints of peaches and 21 pints of apples today. Gala Apple tree is still full of fruit, so next week we will do more apples. Running out of canning supplies and miles to go next week. Tomorrow is a day of rest. May everyone have a good Sunday...

Honchey, how was the family reunion?

Picked the last of the tomatoes last night--green ones too. We had frost last night. Got this flimsy finished--now to add the borders. GD (Em) has claimed it. She wants a flannel backing to keep her toasty warm.

Just got home about 1/2 hour ago and I'm very tired...It was a long day but a good one...My goodness there was so much food we're not going to call it a reunion anymore ...we're going to call it a Family Food Fest....There was Home made pierogi, kielbasa & sauerkraut, chicken francaise, chicken marsala, Lasagna, baked ziti, Chili dogs, barbequed ribs, several different pasta salads, antipasti with soppresetta, assorted cheeses roasted peppers, Fois Gras, duck pate..Tapioca pudding, cookies, fruit salad, pumpkin pie, pumpkin bars w/creamcheese frosting, Birthday Cake for my oldest cousin that turned 81 last week..crumbcake, pistachio/coconut pie, brownies, and the best of all for desserts Candy Apples...they were soooooo good...I haven't had a real good one in about 30 years,,, all sort of beverages but the best was the homemade sangria....All in all it was great..The rain held off until we all ate then we had to go inside for the dessert...Can you imagine 65 people in a small house??? It didn't seem crowded at all ...we were spread out in 4 adjoining rooms. Most of us went home with Doggie bags...now I don't have to wonder about what I'm making for Dunch tomorrow...it's going to be a buffet!!!

It's too early for bed but I'm going to get my jammies on & get comfy..It's only 58* outside so it's going to be good sleeping tonite..it is a little chilly in the house..I might get my electric heater out to warm my feet ...so it time for me to sign off for the night...H.

Ok, I love the quilt.. what size are the squares you used?..The layout is so different...

I think you have some good cooks in your family with all the homemade goodies.

Thanks on the quilt. Squares and sashings are all 2" cut. Here's the link to the original pattern. This one is a 5 x 5 set; I made my 4 x 4 and with 6" finished borders it will be 85 x 85

Good morning. No frost here yet but cool and foggy. I love the weather this time of year.

QNS, sounds like you had a lovely time at the new LQS and it was a nice break for you from all the canning you've done. Sounds like you're ready for a long winter.

OK, love that quilt. Didn't it feel HUGE to you after working on so many small quilts? And DGD is right--flannel would be the perfect backing for snuggling.

Anne, I gained 5 pounds just reading your post!! Darn everything sounded so good. MrJanRn was away all week so I started a strict diet; got to get at least 20 pounds off. If I see one more Lean Cuisine dinner I swear I'll scream. Anxious to go to work tomorrow to get on the scale. (Like one week of sensible eating can make up for all the bad stuff I've been doing LOL.)

Happy birthday to GGal; missing her on here.

So nice to hear about the reunion, Honchey. I am not too familiar with the names of foods but they all sounded good the way you mentioned each one. I was raised by a German-Dutch grandmother (foster) and Father was Irish and Mother a American mix of Native Indian and French.

OK, that quilt is wonderful....and I agree with your GD, flannel would be a perfect backing to snuggle into. No frost here yet, tomatoes are still grown and ripening so still canning a few along and gifting sliced tomatoes to those who did not grow tomatoes. And gifting apples, etc., thanking the Big Guy above for all the bounty of Harvest.

Good luck, JanRN, on your diet. Every time I say 'diet' it seems I gain another five pounds or ten. I have cut my sugars way down...no more munchies of small candy bars , etc., so wonder what the scales will say on the 22nd of September in our wellness check up. And I am drinking water instead of Cherry Coke Cola. Every time I go to get up from sitting in my chair I think, "you old fool, if you didn't eat so much, you would not be putting this much weight on your old tired knees!!! " Love good food, and good company.

GardenGal assures me on face book, that she 'lurks' on this site from time to time . So Happy Birthdaiy, GG. May it be so delightful, that memories will linger throughout the year.

Celebrate the day of rest; have a good week.

Hi Ladies, I was well rested from working last Friday & the Family Reunion & having the kids yesterday...but for some reason I couldn't sleep last night..I woke up at 4:40 a.m and I'm still going.... One of my co-workers hurt her hand at work and now I'm going in tomorrow & Wednesday.. a water pipe broke in the bathroom which is next to our storeroom and that's where we store all of our new boxed machines..they all had to be removed and off the floor...it will be a mess tomorrow when I go in so I won't be able to take any hobby work in to work on..I was planning on doing some cutting tomorrow and now that's out of the picture...I an still wired..I hope I can sleep tonite.... talk to you tomorrow...good to hear from all of you...H.

I got into my QR briefly this morning to finish Row one redo on I SPY...rows are laid out, but need to resew the added blocks in of Thomas. Also started laundry and washed kitchen dishes. Now to pick all the green tomatoes since it frosted last night and clip Sweet Potato vines, pick apples, more apples and pears and start on jelly-jams for the day.

Yesterday we drove for miles to locate high protein duck feed...the supplier we thought had it when we called them, did not....so the eighty miles almost for nothing. We did have a nice Chinese lunch at the buffet place. On to U. and my hometown where we did get the duck/flock feed. Hope we can stay home today.

May everyone have a good day. Don't work too hard, Honchey.

DH & I have been gittin' up early & walkin'. We are tryin' every mornin' but things keep happenin' ta keep us from. I'm tryin' ta use it as a way ta change my sleepin' habits. It's hard though. About the time I start gittin' ta bed at a decent time DH gist sick or hurts his back or knee. I then sleep in & stay up late at night. Yesterday I got 3 hours o' sleep. Last night it was 5. I'm prayin' that I go ta bed early enough tanight ta git some sleep. 5:00am is early, but it's the coolest time o' day.

Dublb, MrJanRN is an early morning person. He gets up at 5am, reads the paper and goes for a long walk. He really misses Patches and the forced exercise he got when he had to walk him. Me? I'm a night owl--up til 1 or so then sleep til 7:30. All those years I worked full time I had to go to bed at 10 and get up at 5--not now! I love sleeping in.
