All the blocks are looking so good, great job ladies.

Just Jan, I know you've been extremely busy and may have forgotten, but didn't you have a block you would like to post? I asked if you could wait until the 15th to do so - it's time if you remember which block it was.. ;o) If you don't remember which block it was I can post one. Hope all is well with everyone now.

This post is from Just Jan, she posted it on August's Bee: "Hi everyone, Just checking in to let you know I survived Irma. Just got power back this evening, but no major damage. Just yard debris and some damaged fence. My house is intact and freezer food is still frozen solid, so I dodged the bullet! Just need rest. I'm exhausted and should sleep well tonight, now that the A/C is working and I'm back in touch with the rest of the world via internet! Janet"

This is also from Just Jan - she had a certain block she wanted to post for the extra block for this month. It was also posted on the August Bee..lolo (Hey Jan, it's September..lolo)

Here is the block I (Just Jan) was talking about. It's called "Light and Shadows." Its an old block by Nancy Cabot. Its made using 3" strips. Cut One Focus square 3 x 3. From Pink cut two 3 x 3 squares and two rectangles 3 x 5 1/2. From green cut two 3 x 3 squares and two 3 x 5 1/2 rectangles. Sew the center four patch. Sew a rectangle to each side of the four patch. Sew a square to each end of the remaining rectangles. Sew one strip to the top and one to the bottom following the picture for the color color placement.

The focus square can be print or a different color solid, and the rest of the squares and rectangles are as listed in complimentary colors to match the focus square. For example the focus square here could be floral as shown or could be dark/hunter green solid. Any color combo works as long as you just use three colors. Enjoy.
You can choose your own coloring.

I don't remember mine not measuring up. You mite try another one, maybe taking a scant 1/4" seam, or cut your pieces a smidge bigger. Good luck..

I'm finally back. Irma hit Highlands County very hard. We have roof damage, our wood fence is history, and our yard (3 acres) is a total mess with branches and leafs everywhere. My oldest grandson made sure our house was boarded up and it is a good thing because citrus fruit was hitting our windows all night like cannon balls. Another grandson brought us a large generator 2 days after Irma so we had power for our well water and our refrigerator. Thank God, no one in my family was injured or had serious damage to their houses. I want to get back to my quilt but I feel guilty when there is so much work to be done around here to get back to normal. I love everyone's blocks and it makes me all the more antsy to start quilting again.

OKSEWNSEW Sorry for my error in posting to the old thread. I posted last night at bedtime and was hurrying. Had my chemo treatment transport pickup at 6:30 this morning. Just got home, checked email and saw your note. Thanks for posting it here for me. I don't know why, but I have a really hard time getting to quilting board messages. I have to log in and log out multiple times before I can read or respond to other posts. Must have grabbed the old link trying to get in. I called the phone company and they said they can't trace the problem until all their lines are repaired that were 'troubled' during the hurricane. For now I have to just keep trying links until one finally completes. Anyway, thanks again for transferring my post for me.

I'm anxious to see if others like this block and hope to see some variations of it. The block itself is not very pretty, but I can imagine how many secondary patterns could be made if the block was made multiple times, set directly together and turned different directions. Bet it would make a cute lap or baby quilt, and think it might be a good go-to block for fast and easy donation quilts. (I've been thinking of making a block using black and white with a red accent square. Didn't get it made so just posted my pink and green test block.)
Just a good 10" basic block to add to our set. Hope others like it, too. Janet

FABRIC GALORE, Glad you and yours are ok. I, too, lost my wooden fence but this time my house/roof did not get damaged at all. If you're like me, your quilting is soothing to you, and we all deserve that break after all this fear and upheaval! Don't feel guilty. Think of it as therapy. Jan

Carrot, very nice! Haven't made my Stanley block yet. Just a bit overwhelmed with a quilting backup of other projects that need finished first! You did a great job and I really like the blocks made using mini-prints.
