Terriamn- good to see another Minnesotan on board. I live on a farm about 60 miles SW of the twin cities. My parents owned a resort up north and that is why my theme is going to be Up North - it was my peaceful place to be. Am still working on my sky row - it's only in the planning phase but once I get the idea it'll go fast. Can't wait to see everyone's quilts.

travelinggramma, I love your blues, they're beautiful. I like the arrangement too, looks wavy.

I'm still working on my sky too. It's looking choppier than I wanted but it is what it is, which is a new experience.

Mine is all from my scraps too M fay. I am limited budget here lol and well you get creative and abstract at times. I am also looking forward to however doing those traditional rows on top bottom and sides. I think perhaps a floppy hat with flowers on it for one row.. drinks of different colors and different types of glasses on another.. then I am stumped! flowers I can do flowers!!! oh and.. grin.. all sorts of things I know. its the beach. it should be simple! star fish maybe. only need four rows. hard to decide on the perfect ones though. applique I can do just blanket stitched and fused down. I wish I knew needle turn but my hands are not so grand and cramp easy so thinking maybe not. stick with what you know ? lol we will see.

I will have my first row finished this weekend and share photos with you! I must need to check my computer lighting it showed the kite one as if it was on white so I must have too much contrast on right now. promise to check that quickly! I like to see what everyone is doing or at least.. pull your fabrics. it will get you inspired I know it. I am ordering that book I think the ideas will be really inspiring for me. I rarely order books. I have so little to shop with so its like.. gulp but the library here might have it but its about the size of a small store thinking it would have to come from somewhere else and only if its donated. best to buy it.. time to hit my son up he is pretty good at helping keep me busy with things. Its only 20.00 right? the cover truly is so cool I want to make THAT quilt! lol next round right?

I want to do sand as the waves are hitting it then farther out is the basic background for my last row. but then I need to applique the chairs (2) two drinks, two towels on towels and of course floppy hats. other than that nope haven't thought about it much because it truly scares the heck out ofme. all that applique! lol it only so much but it seems like a lot. if you M fay have a better idea please oh please let me know! oh oh and also I have a person who does the mug rug swap and the fat quarter swap who lives in Australia if you ever want a partner who is local and want to join . she is the sweetest young lady. grin.. come on over to the other side! my side! lol. the swap side!

my sky is done and its time to think water. I have the coolest blue batik jelly roll that is perfect for the water I think so I might just have to go with this. need soft waves to do the edge of water and sand but other than that got enough to work on that this weekend. its nice to get a tiny bit ahead. first to sew the row together and to also put those colors up in the sewing room so the table is not so overwhelmed. just water fabrics now and maybe the edge of the lagoon with a bit of palm trees not sure.. one thing at a time. water here I come!

Love your blues.travellinggramma...I finished my 4 blocks of sky & melded them together and stipple quilted the row. I've never done this before, so its a learning curve. I hope I've left enough working space to join the next row. My next row will be the far horizon,

I know! I have to do the horizon also, ocean and sky meeting! ahhh! lol. you did a great job! love the addition of the bird! wish I had some. I had a lot of pale blues in my box so that is why I went with that. was thinking of a softly warm day on the beach and morning light. I sit here in Wyoming looking at the morning sun every day. it looks gorgeous once again outside. think its mid forties all ready as the front door is wide open. I am ready for nice fresh air. warm would be good too. it seems to go from cold to nice to hot instantly. what is with that? I would like spring like the rest of you!

I will have my row finished today and then share it with all. I also have to take a pic of the cool turquoise batiks that were sent to me. they are gorgeous. my trouble is mixing batiks with regular fabrics. these are strips. I am thinking Robert kaufman maybe they are not going to bleed but would croak if they did don't want that color in my sky! any ideas? I have color catchers for after the fact. I haven't had much bleeding before with his things. only 2 out of all the reds I had ever bled and they bled three times before they stopped. argh! thankfully no reds in this sky beach scene. phew! my lesson learned: wash all reds. even fat quarters. not worth the mess they make otherwise.

If you are doing mountains what mountains are you thinking of? I cant believe its m-fay and I alone on this one but so glad for her company. do a wall hanging. two or three panels. easy to do, not much time involved but you might find you like it. its not that hard grin... look at us! we are giving it a try. I need to post the snippet picture I did its in my folder here somewhere of the cowboys. that is what inspired me to try this. similar idea picture wise but all sewn down (ok this is a bit tougher than just fusing things together and smushing them down with the iron.. a tiny bit..). It is from that book I bought on snippets. she did wreaths lol and I did.. cowboys. I have this cowboy addiction not lying. My house is filled with cowboy stuff lol. My first quilt was a sampler quilt but using all cowboy fabric. I love that quilt. NO one touches that quilt lol. I have books and photographs on old fashioned western gear.. ghost towns big giant book. Someone had to counter that collection of Vietnam books. and things. groan. I am not so much into that but fair is fair. he can have books I can decorate my house with good stuff. quilts and cowboys. yuppers.

do you have anything your attached to? is it modern things? is it frank Lloyd Wright? dolls? books? oh you could do a book case full of books as your row robin! or perhaps its cooking anything with the kitchen is cool? curiosity makes me ask. I am second addicted to vintage things sorta goes with my cowboys. and vintage fabrics and and.. guess one could say I am an addict! yikes!
