The advice to use cleaners 'designed for the job' is spot on! I use the Cerama Bryte Ceramic Cooktop Cleaning Kit. It comes with a scraper, 2 cleaning pads and a bottle of cleaning solution. I have a razor from another product that I use too. The microfiber cloth is a must to finish the job off! (microfibre does miracles when it comes to streaks)

I also like Weiman products. I especially like the Stainless Steel Wipes.

When all is said and done, I love my black cooktop and my stainless steel appliances. I did NOT like cleaning under element rings and down into the drip pans on my previous stoves.

I inherited a black glass top range when we bought this house. In a couple of weeks, it will be replaced with a gas range and I am strongly contemplating taking the glass top into the back yard and having at it with a sledge hammer!! It is absolutely horrible to clean and absolutely horrible to cook with. The elements keep cycling on and off which means that I cannot get a constant heat. Oh and did I say I can't get the dang top clean?? If anything drips it seems to be there for life!!

Definitely designed by a man!!

I have stainless appliances and a black top electric stove. For spills etc on the stove top, I let them soak under a wet dish cloth, wipe up the mess (occassionally scrape w a knife blade), and wipe clean with Chlorox wipes. I've found Chlorox wipes also do the best job on the stainless appliances. It cuts the grease and dirt and leaves them shiny clean (no streaks).

CeramaBryte for stainless & Weiman for glass stove top. 1 client has all stainless in the kitchen on the advice of her realtor when she remodeled to sell. I clean the stove every time I'm there. They had guest for 6 days while I was in MI for 8 & were VERY happy to have me back.

Consider buffing after washing using newspaper and white vinegar or Windex?

I have a black stove and I do know what you are going threw. I struggled with this for years. But a friend of mine that worked at a tea room told me what to do. Spray your cooled stove top with window cleaner ( glass cleaner) and walk away and let it set for 10 minutes or longer and wipe off with a soft clean cloth. ( I use old wash cloths) Don't let the window cleaner dry on the stove just let it set to help cut the grease. If my stove top is really bad with grease I will spray and wipe it down twice. Using a clean cloth each time. But this works and is cheap solution!

I'm on my second electric black top stove and I have no problems. I wipe mine off after every use, just with the dishcloth. Once in a while I sprinkle baking soda over it with a little water and use a scouring pad. Then finish with a glass cleaner. Best advice I can give is do a light cleaning after each use, don't let it build up.

My daughter had a fire in her stove. When she moved into her new home, the stove had never been cleaned and the grease caught fire. She used baking soda to put out the fire so she could clean the top.

I am so glad to hear that I am not the only one who hates her black and stainless stove. I hate cleaning it so bad, I usually use my microwave or electric oven to cook . This was in the house when I bought it. If I ever buy another it will not be black.
