Lost Arts (and Crafts)
#41
I actually like to darn socks. Hubby can put holes in new ones with his steel toe work boots. I finally found a brand that holds up better. But I'll only do them so many times before they get pitched in the "darn bin". He's sure of always getting new ones for his birthday and Christmas.

...the lost art of mending (especially sock darning) and the complete inability of people when it comes to polishing shoes!
It just gives me more $$$$ for quilting stuff

But what really has me reminiscing is the old mimeograph copies. Somewhere I still have a recipe to make a pan of jelly stuff that will hold ink long enough to press multiple sheets against it so you can have copies of whatever.
Does this ever take me back! I had not thought of this in a long time. I may have had a recipe for this myself, but no longer have it. It would be neat to make a pan of this up with some children today and let them see how it is done.

Now, with computers/printers and photocopiers, putting the time and effort into that would be ridiculous.
What other arts have been lost to technology?

As for lost arts (and crafts), I can't think of any, except maybe tatting or lace making. Some people still do them though.
