What kind of exercise activities do you ladies all do? It seems many of us that quilt are on the happy heavier side and I wondered if there was a connection or if it was our age and gender. Even though, I have lost weight over time, I have not been good about exercising. But here are some of the things I enjoy, snorkeling, swimming and gardening. I should probably add walking. Everything has been low key and no regiment. The snorkeling is over for now, swimming will be over soon and I will be left with gardening and walking. There is no doubt in my mind that a good part of my issues is lack of movement.

There are so many exercises you can do. Not that I am good about it. Some that I enjoy are cycling, spinning class, water aerobics, elliptical, yoga. I need to do weight lifting but it is boring. I don't think it is just quilters who tend to be heavy and out of shape. So many things in life that we do don't involve exercise. Also there is so much processed food out there with so much junk added to it. So many of us are always in a hurry or doing things for others we fail to take the time we need to look out for ourselves. We need to learn to set some time aside for ourselves every day.
It is so hot at school. My hair was flat 30 minutes aftr i got there. We don't have any AC, today was the coolest day for the week at 87 with 60% humidity. It is supposed to get hotter as the week goes on. The teachers lounge has AC but it doesn't work very well, but is better than nothing. I am going to have to wear a dress to be cooler. We are allowed to wear shorts if it is 86 or above.

I'm doing the exact same! I put the Fitbit app on my phone and am really happy with how that is working for me!

This is so true. I think especially wives and moms fall into this.

When the weather gets so hot and humid I just can't get anything done.

Both Becky and Terri, 5 miles is a lot! that is wonderful. I did 2 the other day and I thought it was nice. Where do you walk? Do you walk by yourself?

Walking just under two miles a day almost every day. Anyone with a Siberian knows you'll get yodeled at if the walk isn't in by 10:00 pm. Yoga class once a week. At home videos several more times. Short bike or trike rides - nothing like Pat's. When it's not humid or icy out, I add interval walking to my regular walks. Walk hard and fast from one lamp post to the next, then cruise control for the same distance and repeat. Adds so much weight control without much extra effort.

My grandson was here Saturday evening. When Lily (the Sib/Shiba Inu) realized we were going to the dog park, she was excited. M didn't put his shoes on fast enough so Miss Liliana Grace was rearing up and yelling at him. I had to laugh. His mother can't get him to hurry - Lily can.

FIVE MILES? In my dreams! My goal this week, as allowed by my therapist, is to walk as much as a half mile a day. And no hills. I live in the Texas Hill Country - so that limits me. I've tried to walk around my complex, but there are so many friendly people who wanna stop & talk. I don't do well when I have to stand still. Tomorrow I am going for my first bike ride outside - again no hills. Of course, these first few rides are more about conditioning my butt to sit on that skinny seat.

I am in the mood to sew. Last year, a quilt magazine had a quilt-along that I'm wanting to do. I certainly have the scraps. At least I'm not on a time schedule like this time last year. Probably also why I've not accomplished ANY sewing this year.

Pat, sounds to me like you are being manipulated by a mom who is being manipulated by her child. I pray wisdom and strength for you.

Did my skinnies arrive?

Ladies, what is ONE thing you are doing this week to help with your weight loss? I am not consuming any calories after 7pm. I'm usually more miss than hit since I'm up so much with my knees at night.

Anna, for me, I think that when I'm deliberately moving, I've tricked my brain into thinking I'm gonna be effective in removing the fat. In truth, I have more weight-loss success when I tweak my nutrition - mostly by limiting my carbs and upping my protein. But, you have to move your body to aid in digestion, sleep, etc - plus, doesn't it just feel good?
