Would you have your dog FIXED??
#52
Hmm....I think its a personal decision. I regretted an early decision to fix one of my females, as I got a great chance to let her have puppies. Everyone kept asking me to breed her just once and I know the pups would have all gone to a good home. I have a minature poodle right now that I would fix in an instant if my hubby would shell out the $$$$! I also have 2 females who are in heat right now and the male acts like an idiot! lol I have to keep them separate so we won't have little ones....I'd save on the side if he doesn't change his mind soon!

granniebj-there are low cost spay and neuter programs all over, that you should be able to get both your females spayed. Please don't get me wrong, but in my opinion there's no excuse not to get dogs and cats spayed, regardless if you can "good homes". Let's assume they have puppies and you find all the puppies "good homes", then the new owners don't get theirs spayed, and breed, thus it goes, which is why there are so many dogs and cats in the pound and are euthanized after a very limited time without finding a home. Please get your dogs and cats(if you have any) spayed or neutered.

clem, just watch that little hyper ball. those little dogs have small bones.
My mom's yorkie sailed out their RV door and broke his leg. Took surgery, therapy...a playpen...all kinds of money and he didn't heal back to normal, like he was before.
They are supposed to be one person dogs, but I babysat him for a week, doctored a squirrel scratched eye, napped with him...all that week, and he was my best bud when I came over, but he loved my mom and my brother that lives their did all the walking etc. with him.
He just loved everybody, but watch out when it was time to leave! he didn't like being left.
Little guy is at rainbow bridge now, but what a sport model he was...went by yodi ;)

I would have had him neutered at absolutely the FIRST opportunity.
A male dog has a drive that will lead him to do any number of things to try to "blow off steam" ...
the longer he has to deal with the male drive and unsatisfaction, the more habits he will develop, and once developed, there is a real chance he will not stop ... easy to get a bad attitude, lots of hard work to get it undone <wave>

I was told by a vet some years ago that if you don't get them "fixed", and don't let them breed, the females can develop ovarian cancer, and the males testicular cancer. All my dogs and cats have been neutered/spayed, and my 12 week old pup will be as soon as he is old enough. All non breeding animals should be "fixed". Besides, do you want them coming home with a tummy full of paws and claws?
