That is one cute little chuhauhua you have there. The running, jumping around is partly I believe He is just a little dog with a big happy personality. But if He is really annoying you are having behavior problems. I was a Vet. Tech. and dog groomer, Helped the Vet inbetween grooming. Most people think Fixing,Spaying thats a female...Nuetering that is a male... Settles them down. NOT!!! just takes the sexual aggresion from them. I am having pretty much the same problem with my adopted toy poodle, Misha. She didn't know how to walkShe ran, back and forth in circles pulling choking. I bought a control collar, not an eletric one. This collar works, if you are horsy it is on the running martingale method. No choking, perfect walking by my side,it works by putting pressure on head not throat like a reg. collar does. Thank the Lord, Posting some pics.
Actually, with cats it doesn't matter, but with dogs..... When you spay, neuter a dog before or by 6 mths old...now to some this may be desirable...Me NOT.. A lot of them especially if they are the kind that is running, playing or hyper acting there are some laid back pups.. This stays with them. The Vets neglect to tell people that. Boy dogs dont lift thier legs if nuetered before or by 6 mths. That might be a good thing to some people...Girl dogs their private part doesn't grow, it stays the same size, some big dogs have problems urinating because of this. Now I am for spay, nueter if you are not going to breed and you shouldn't breed if you are not completly sure pups will go to a good home. If you are not going to Spay your female while young it should be done before they are 6 yrs old becuse of uterin cancer. The female in season is an aggravating messy thing just as it is with us ladies every month. My DD had kennel she could have just put up with it one time for 3 weeks... A dog normally goes into to Heat usually at abt. 1 yr. old. most twice a yr. some more often... Dog would have been more mature and I wouldn't have as many behav. problems with her. She is 2 now and acts like she is 6 mths old. But we have come to love her dearly and would think about getting rid of her She is our Baby now.
Don't know what you have decided but I think you have a behavior problem and neutering will not solve it. Just take the sexual aggresion is all from them. TRUE!!!!

If you don't plan on breeding him get him neutered. If he is neutered he will not get testicular cancer which is prevalent in male dogs. It is a health issue. Other dogs are less likely to be aggressive around him also as they can tell my smell if he is in tact or neutered and less of a threat.

All responsible owners should have cats and dogs spayed/neutered. All 4 dogs and 4 cats are spayed neutered. It makes for better pets, no spraying of urine and no kitties, puppies and healthier pets all around. Not making toy breeds mind when young is the reason lots end up in pounds where millions a year are put down each year. My MIL adpoted the chihuahua, and got tired of caring for her and didn't potty train her properly, took her back to pound, I found out and went and adopted her. They are smart dogs and can understand more than you think, she is turning into a nice dog, and I'm not done training her yet, just one thing at a time.

Jingleberry, you are very correct.it makes for better pets,no spraying for the male cats and no hiking leg with the male dog, and it is a preventive for test. cancer. But I am correct also in the if done so early you have the other problems. A responible pet owner would make sure cat or dog that unwanted preg. can be avoided by confining the animal until it is over. Misha is also turning into a nice dog. It takes a lot of patients and the right training every day no skipping, they are to smart it is an everyday deal. Just like it is when you train your child to the potty. I am so happy you got your moms Chihuahua. They are super smart and nice little companions. You will have a funny, warm little friend. BillsBonBon

Most definitely. We always get a male puppy and have it fixed before it learns to lift it's leg. He generally squats and when he has accidents inside, at least it's not on the furniture. Also, he doesn't ride on people's legs, especially guests when they come to visit. And, it does calm them down. So, if you aren't interested in breeding, then I would have him fixed. Sally

All pet cats and dogs should be fixed. It's the responsible thing to do. The animals have a healthier life and will save the pet owner many dollars in vet bills later on.

I have a Chihuahua.....male and I had him fixed at six weeks
He chewed on furnniture at first then quit. When I say "outside" he knows to go. I dont know if he is spoiled but he thinks my recliner is his domain. He is deathly afraid of a newspaper, lol

Exercise and discipline before affection. Yes fix him !!!! You may have unknowing encouraged this behaviour by laughing at him or even smiled. Dogs read body language very well.

Have you considered taking him to "doggie classes"? They are a lot of fun for both dog and owner.
