Anyone and Everyone ... do you include two blocks, when they are the same subject (eg. cats), though different fabrics and colours? Or do you tend to keep to only one of a subject?[/quote]

I do not have as great a variety yet so I put everything in as long as it is appropriate for age and gender. Like for Lesander's quilt I put in two of more fire engines but from different fabrics. he loves cars and trucks and such. I also put in multiple dog fabrics and sea life fabrics.

I found a cheater fabric that looked like the eye spy so I used that for a backing. That worked out really well.

Search/watch for an eye swap on this board. It's fun.

I made an 'eye spy' quilt for my grandson. I bought several collections of squares on ebay. I think they were
4.5, 5 and 9 inches. I trimmed the big ones. I did not want to buy quarter yards of 400 different fabrics, although I did have a few novelty fabrics in my stash. We did have to buy a 'Woody and Buzz' fabric and a 'Thomas' fabric because we couldn't do without those.

I just sat down to start planning one for my 2 GGSs. Have made several in the past. I use two matching fussy cut prints, one in quilt, one in border. To throw in a curve for the older ones (4,5) I put in the matching one AND one that is mirror image. Many prints have one image reversed. . . same object (car, train, doll), same color but facing different directions. This is fun and great reading readiness practice.

I just finished a 50" x 60" I Spy. I used 3 1/2 inch squares made into a four patch and then border with a 2 1/2 inch strips. The result is a 10 1/2 inch square. Strips were assorted primary colors -- quilt is very colorful!!
