I have paid 15.00, but that was for a special dress. Otherwise I buy online and at Joaans, on sale.

I pretty much just shop at Hancocks or online. I wait for Hancocks to go on sale for 40% or50% off. I find that 1,000s of bolts is pretty reasonable also Conecting Threads.

All the quilt shops/fabric stores in my area have on average $8 - $10.00 a yard fabric. JoAnn's has cheaper fabric but you can tell a difference in quality. Connecting Threads on line has great fabric. They just lowered their regular price on prints to $4.96 a yard and solids to $3.96 a yard. They have a new line of batiks and they are priced at %5.96 a yard.

I have ordered fabrics from this company and there were fabulous!

Depends where you live. It costs $21 - $26 on average in Australia, with the occasional cheapie or when on sale, and I've seen it at $75 in the 'speciality' quilt shops...

Absolutely NOT! I'd just as soon wait until it goes on sale for $3.50-4.95/yd. Since I prefer mostly scrappy quilts, having the "latest" fabric means little to me. One time I bought a yard of a Halloween fabric I had been looking for, which was $7.95, and even that was really irksome. <G> We're not stingy... we're what the Scots call "mingy" - somewhere between frugal and stingy. <G> That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it. :)

I was excited to see Connecting Threads batiks and ordered half yards of a whole selection. I found the fabrics quite beautiful, but much thinner than usual batik fabrics. This would be good if all the fabrics in a quilt are from Connecting Threads, since quilting would be easier. But, they would not mix well with fabrics from other sources. At the same time, I ordered batiks on sale from three other sources. I found that the colors on Connecting Threads website did not match the real fabrics. I would have blamed my monitor, but the fabrics I ordered from three other sources matched the online colors perfectly.The threads I ordered were considerably darker than they appeared on the screen.

My daughter had purchased fabric earlier from Connecting Threads and found very different surface smoothness in several fabrics from the same line of prints.

I'm not sure whether I'll buy from them in the future.

I rarely pay so much for fabric. It's too easy to find sales, mark-downs, specials & those 40-50% off coupons really help. Usually find something I like if I shop around. Maybe if I were to want a special fabric I might buy, say a yard at $9.00, but no more than that.

How do those of you who live in Canada, England, Australia, etc. manage to purchase fabric at all? I'd have to go back to using old clothing, etc. if I had to pay those prices for fabric. I've seen some of those fabrics though, and they are exquisite. social Security retirement just doesn't make allowances for my fabric stash.

When I was working I bought up bolt ends and remnents.. So I have a big stash.. of course it doesn't have much of anything over a yard or two... so I mostly make scrap quilts and try to make due with what I have... I have made dozens of quilts, kept some, given many.. I'll use the fabric I have and the patterns I have and then I guess I'll be done. How many quilts away from being done am I?? pretty far.. Seems like no matter how much sewing I do I still have a ton of fabric.. so I try to spend nothing at all.. backings are the biggest problem.. I've seen lots of people just sew pieces of fabric together until it's big enough for the back.. but somehow that doesn't appeal to me... so I am still buying backings..

I don't want to put a damper on things, but I sure hope those who do not buy at your LQS never go and ask advise of the owner or their employees.
