I can't measure mine right now as I don't have it set up - no room; however, we took pvc pipe and cut it, then put the legs of a table and stuck inthe pipes and elevated it to my required height.

Well as so many have said it depends on your height as to what is going to be comfortable for you. I have two 5ft folding tables we bought from walmart so I can lay out my quilts to pin them. I just can't get on the floor. My knees and back are shot. I have them set up in my livingroom right now so I can do some cutting. Hubby cut some pvc pipe about 12 inches long and stuck one on each of the legs of the tables to jack them up so I don't have to bend over the tables. I just love it!! They aren't pretty but it works. You have to use pvc pipe that is larger in diameter than the table legs. There is no way the table can fall over. No way it could be a danger to you or someone walking by. They are removable, if the table needs to be used for something else. This really works. My daughter snickered when she saw it but you could even spray paint the pvc if you want it to look better.

I had the pvc pipe setup in my old space before I had my basement finished into a studio. I had my builder custom make me two tables, both on casters; one is formica topped with my large cutting mat on. The other is 60x80 and padded with wool and then ironing board fabric stapled on for quilts and other large projects. The tables have a file cabinet at each corner for holding fabric and other supplies. My tables are 33", perfect for my height. I even used the pvc pipe to make my old bunk bed into a trundle bed. Now I can slide one mattress & its base under the other when I don't need it. Not pretty but I haven't heard any guests complain.

I put the bedrisers under the legs of my ironing table. My cutting table sets on top of two of the small filing cabinets and I bought the table top from girl that works at JoAnns fabrics. It is one of their original cutting table tops with the cutting ditch in it.My table is 301/2 inches tall.

I have an old stainless steel surgical instrument table. And it is 36 inches. It is just the right size for me . I am 5'4". They were going to trash it when two hospital's merged. It had one leg that had been welded. I love it . It has wheels and that makes it easy to move. It also has a second shelf, which I have a basket with current project in it and where I keep my safety pins and clips for binding. I am sure there is a way to rise it and make it safe. Hope your back gets to feeling better. Nothing worst than a backache or sore feet.

Ever try a back massager. :?:
http://www.shopzilla.com/massagers/s...22009/products
These are great for lower back pain &/or shoulder pain.
They run around a $100.00 or more.
You can see prices at the above site.
It is best to buy then at a place where you can try them out. At Christmas time lots of places sell them, Got mine at GNC but saw them at Wal Mart too.
I have one and use it alot. ;-) ;)

You may want to look at some fabric stores and see how high their cutting tables are and see how that hieght would work for you.
Now if I could just lower my kitchen counter tops and inch or two!!

It is likely that there are OSHA standards for work table hights in industry. You could contact your company's "Loss Control" or "Safety" department for the standards. Back pain from a work situation is a Workers Compensation injury which could cost them $$$$ so they should pay attention.
