Janome 6600 or 7700 which to choose?

Try out the machines. When you go back, take some of your own material and batting and sew on both machines to compare them to each other. You might like one more than the other. Take your time and ask, ask, ask. When the man in the store said "everything" that was not a clear enough answer. Don't assume what everything means. I know you won't be disappointed with your Janome. They are great machines.

Wow this is soooo exciting isn't it..I mean I made a 65" x 45" throw on my little Janome 301- its a small portable and I have to admit I struggled a bit-especially on the bindings as well the feed dogs didnt like the three layers of quilt plus the binding. Also the width when doing the FMQ.
We dont have loads of money so DH wanted me to have it for Christmas - but as you say I need to go into the store and try them out. I love the idea of the 11" width on the 7700-I know I probably wouldnt be able to afford one of the big long arms..so this could be a lovley compromise..I will definately take your advice and bring my swatches in-I may even make up a swatch with binding and see how they cope! I am sure they will eat it!! Thanks for that advice- thats a good idea!

Hi from New Zealand. Janome machines here are approximately $5000.00 NZ dlrs. I have a "happy Jack" quilting frame but only a Brother machine ( wonderful wee thing) but is normal "harp" the bigger Janome's are approx 11" throats -- I would love one of those !!!

Do you do your own quilting? Free motion quilting? That 11" throat on the 7700 would make moving a quilt around so much easier.
If you quilt, either FMQ or SID . . . go for the 7700.
If not, the 6600 would be fine for piecing and sewing. They are both neat machines.

Hi there- yes I see what you mean about the harp-I do my own quilting and it's something I would really like to get into more seriously-have just started quilting.I just did a large throw on my ordinary one and used up all the arm space- showed up in the stitches.
The 7700 seems like a good choice- the dealer also has the Pfaff Expression 4 but he tells me it is not as strong as the Janome.There is a big price difference between the 7700 and the Pfaff, with the Pfaff being quite a bit cheaper by around 400 Euro's- which 550 dollars?cheaper..its embroidery stitches are a bit bigger and it has a few extra features. So don't know if this is the case or the dealer wants to sell me the more expensive Janome.
I am taking in some quilt swatches next week to try out. Does anyone agree that the Pfaff is less powerful or problematic or is that 'dealer talk' ?

I have the 6600 and just love it! I bought it used with the table it fits into (it is a perfect addition and is very heavy duty) and wouldn't think twice about doing it again. I couldn't justify the extra money for a 7700. It has a few more bells and whistles, but the 6600 has everything I need.

Oh thankyou-that is so helpful- I had read quite a bit about the Pfaffs-some people love them and others really hate them..it seems an awful lot of people on this board have Janome's and really love them. i wondered why the Pfaff was so much cheaper and my local dealer was steering me towards either the 6600 Janome or the 7700 if I could afford it. He is a really nice man said the Janomes would take a lot of 'hacking about'! he reckons them to be tough and sturdy for quilting.

As others have noted, the 6600 and 7700 are not long arms.
In early September I bought the 6600. Started looking at the 6500 and soon went up to the 6600 because of the AccuFeed system. I forget now what the upgrades were to the 7700, other than more fancy stitches and the larger harp. Although, there was something "missing" on the 7700 that the 6600 had.
If you're considering these, check the Janome site, and compare the specs of the two together.
