Quilt Journals?

I keep a journal, with photos, of the quilts I have made. Mine is just basic information, or longer details where needed. I measure the progress I have made in being a new quilter (began late 2009). Several are "special" in some way and I usually get misty eyed when I think of them. I made about 2 dozen the first 2 years, but have slowed down now. I like the piecing, but I use a professional to long-arm the quilts. Today I gifted the last two quilts to my dear grandson. You should have seen his face light up as he pointed out his cherished t-shirts! I hope we got a photo of him to include in my journal.

I feel like a part of me goes into every quilt I make and I actually miss them just a little each time they're gifted. It gives me a way to re-visit them every now and then and think about the person who was in my heart at the time.

I just take pictures of all the quilts I make. I should do a journal but so far haven't. I needed to ask my other kids the other day the size of their memory quilt because I couldn't remember what I had made them. However, thankfully I had my pictures and found the one I made for the last daughter who left home so I answered my own question.

As a newbie and self taught quilter, I find myself writing notes as I quilt - notes that describe the characteristics of the fabric I am using ( learned there is vast difference in the quality of fabrics), or jotting down tips when determining fabric yardage needs ie how many cuts I can achieve from a half yard cut, and every now and then a few insights to life enjoy

I started a sewing blog for most of the above stated reasons. I usually give most away and forget where I saw the pattern online. This way the object made and the site, link, or YouTube video is saved with the project. An e-journal of sorts.

I have been keeping a journal. Partly because sometimes I will need to adjust the pattern to be larger, and want to know what I did and how much fabric I used for future quilts. I don't have a camera, so usually I ask people I give quilts to to please send me a picture. Most of them usually do, although it does take some time. I now try to have my daughter here when I finish a quilt and then she helps me take a picture of them. I also try to keep a small scrap of the fabrics that I used in the quilts, and if I can remember where the fabric was bought, I record that as well. I love the ideas you have all been sharing.

I would use one because I have forgotten most of the quilts I made so very many years ago. Back then I never put labels on them. In the future someone who has one of my quilts would like to know who made it and when. Also if a quilt is lost or stolen having it documented in your quilt journal (including a picture) might help it be found and returned to orignal owner. Plus it will remind you of who you gave a quilt to and who you never gave a quilt to. There are just tons of reasons to keep a quilt journal. Thank you for reminding me to start one.

My current "journal" is just a little fun notebook/journal that I keep notes in for projects, shopping resources, tips & techniques that I find here & there, etc. If I find inspiration for a certain person, I'll make notations for a new project with the pattern and/or fabric choices found.
Haven't thought about doing an actual album of my creations. Guess I'll consider a small photo album for that.

When I gave my SIL a quilt about 10 years ago, she gave me a little quilt journal book as a thank you gift. I have a larger book now of pictures of my quilts and their new owners, with the date, pattern, fabrics, if it was a special occasion (like a wedding), and maybe a geographic location. I already had pictures of quilts I had made for 20 years or so, so the little one filled up quickly.
