Wonderful job restoring this family treasure! You should feel no guilt - just pride. Question about the name - what makes a 'friendship quilt'? Did individuals make the blocks and put them together as a group? Maybe everyone already knows this but I've heard the term before & wondered what it means about the origin the the quilt.

Many times, my husband does restoration on his deceased "Moms junk" and then when his sister sees it restored she makes some comment as to how much her mother wanted her to have that particular piece. We have learned to ignore the comments. It takes work and patience to restore things and if in the future he wants to give it to her then he will, until then "look but leave it alone."

Don't feel guilty, as you put many hours of love and patience back into this old masterpiece - it is something to cherish and hope you can bequeath it to someone in your family who will cherish it as much as you have, so it remains a part of the family forever. Bless you for this big task and done so beautifully - it appears to be a new quilt now.
Ditto, Now it is yours and your grandmothers. You did a beautiful job on it. Those who had a chance to work on it didn't want it you did all the extra work so you deserve it. Let them drool, (just not on the quilt). Know that your grandmother is saying "I knew that you could do it, thanks), and I am sure that she is smiling down on you. Thanks for sharing. BrendaK

I take it is a compliment by the other family members to the hard work you've put into the resoration process and so feel proud of the final product and enjoy the feeling of family continunity that quilt brings. It has fulfilled its purpose of passing items down through generations.

What a sunny, orangey touchable quilt, looks great with black sashing. How amazing at the integrity of most of the fabric from 1934, things were so well made then, her stitching is very neat. I think she'd be smiling to see your work of love and how beautiful it looks.
