Shannon - it's a friendship quilt, as each of the ladies made their blocks and embroidered their names and date on the blocks. Actually many of the ladies were family on this quilt. My grandmother and her sisters were included in the quilt.

Thanks for all the encouraging thoughts. There is not a chance I'd give this quilt away. I'm the only quilter in the family, and I think people who don't quilt never appreciate a quilt like a quilter. My family knows I worked hard on this, and I don't think they would seriously try to get it -- but if offered ... they would take it in a minute.

Great job restoring the quilt. I was told that if I restore one of my Grandmother's quilts (one of the fabrics is also disintgrading) that I should put a label on the back telling what I did and the date I did it so that someone who wants to date the quilt knows why there is newer fabric in the quilt.

I have my grandmothers quilt that she made in the late 20 and early 30. It is in really bad shape but I can't bring myself to do anything to it as it will not be hers than. So it hangs over my quilt rack. The best part of this is that I have a picture of her standing in front of this quilt when she got it done.
