2019 Fabric Moratorium

Excellent, quiltmouse.... I cannot say the same but I'm a whole better than I use to be.
joesmom...I'm fickle, too, about fabric genre. I think, for me anyway, it really depends on the pattern. However, colorful prints appeals to me more often. Lately, I've been drawn to softer colors but still colorful and, of course, patriotic is a pleasure to roll around in. I tend to be drawn to floral's more so than modern prints. I like the traditional fabrics for QOV...

Where was I when you gave away almost "60 yards" of fabric, and why wasn't I one of the special ones to get some? Not that I need another Fabric Angel anyway. I have two more totes of 6-1/2" squares and 3 totes of 2-1/2" strips waiting patiently on me.
QuiltMouse, you lasted more than 10 times as long as I did when I finally signed up for the challenge. I think I purchased backing fabrics within the first month.
On a side note, I was able to get 7 more tops strip-pieced by last Monday, September 30. If I had counted correctly it would have been 10-- . I am definitely not going to knock the challenge. If I wasn't on the board right now, I know that I would not have this many done---And out of fabric I already own (or was gifted).

I haven't kept a tally of yardage used, but I have made 46 quilts so far this year, 5 are waiting their turn at the longarm. Everyone of those tops used either a precut from the stash or a kit that has been sitting around. And only a couple used backing that I bought for that exact purpose. About a half dozen were baby quilts , another half dozen were lap size or large lap size for the cancer center. The rest have been queen size. So, I would say I made a pretty good dent in the stash.

First look at the Confetti quilt. It will be twin sized, there is an additional row of length I couldn't fit into the shot. The sashing is on each left side of the blocks, need to determine layout and and make the long skinny sashing rows.
The juvenile novelty focus fabrics are 6.5" raw. I cut the confetti fabric at 2.5", it required ~2.5 yards. The sashing squares varied in length from 6-6.5", I cut them all 3" wide x length. In my project I used 35 focus fabrics set 5x7, it should measure 68x94". If you are doing the sashing by squares, you need two squares per focus fabric, plus one square for top/bottom sides (5+7 = 12), for a total of 82 squares in addition to the 35 focus fabrics.
In this case, I chose to highlight the novelty fabrics. Had I chosen to do floral centers, I could hide the novelty pieces in the sashing instead.
I made the deliberate decision to make all the lengths random to use the fabric I have, and therefore am setting the sashing randomly offset. I can see where if you wanted to be precise you could do something cool with a light/dark/woven pattern if you wanted. I just want to slap this together
You could do the same sort of thing with 2.5" squares for the sashing, in that case you might want to consider changing the confetti frame width to 1" finished instead of 2". Also, I think it would be a good way to use string or crumb quilting pieces in the sashing. The quilt we make depends on the scraps we have!

Iceblossom, that is a perfect idea for quilts we do for foster kids that age out of the system. Love the color and variety.
I came here to confess that I too have been buying fabric: cute Halloween fabric, darling FQ and must have batiks to keep company with the batik stash that will outlive me. I keep the purchases for each store in reason but it adds up. I was traveling and it gave me an excuse to pop in to new stores.
However, I am finishing up quilts and organizing my fabric so I can meet my goal of two fairly large quilts for the foster kids this year. Also, I will actually finish my Christmas quilt that I put the center together about 2.5 years ago. The quilt store that I bought the layer cake from has sold to new owners. Yep, it was that long ago.
Here is an old UFO. I painted the center back in 2006. I am thinking of couching or using a heavier thread to quilt in a stronger color to make defined sea weed. Also, may add some beads or foil to highlight a few rainbow fish and turtles. Any ideas of how to improve the sea weed or add some detail will be greatly appreciated. I also am looking for ideas on color of thread and design for the tie dye border.
