Rob, Your pieces are often so unique! As i haven't an imaginative mind, this impresses me a great deal. :) Congratulations on another UFO finish. Toot, Toot!

I didn't think I'd have time to finish a UFO this month due to lots of out of town guests. But the last one left Monday and after reclaiming my sewing studio (DH still calls it the guest bedroom LOL), I was able to pull this smallish piece off the UFO pile and get it done. Good thing, too since I didn't have a new piece for the 4th Friday opening at the gallery where I show my work.
I think this one's been sitting around for the better part of a year (or two) waiting for inspiration. Rob |
Sheri, once again another beautiful grandma quilt. You are so very giving. Lovely piece! Congratulations and Toot, Toot!

Great finished so far this month!
Here's one to add to our list. It's for my SisterInLaw. I had intended on making her a whole different quilt, but after I finished all the Grandkid's quilts her daughter shared that she wished she could have a quilt like the grandkids were getting. She wanted to see more of all the fabrics her mom had had. Nuf said! I took her bag of grandma fabric that I had kitted and made one like the grands! Her daughter told me she liked light blue, she was lucky grandma had enough light blue stripe! I started making it with yellow stars but it kept telling me to use white. (Do Amy if you have quilts that talk?) i unpicked all the yellow and started over with white! I made it larger than the grandkids too, which required me to piece the back. For her back, I used fabric that was actually curtains in my SisterInLaw's bedroom when she was a girl. I hope she likes her quilt! It's really one of my favorite grandma quilts. |
Toot, Toot, QuilterMomma! This is a beauty. I'm glad you are keeping this one. I'm sure it will make you happy just to see it everyday. Congrats!

Sophie, I'm so glad they have their feet and eyes. They're the right finishing touches. (Cardinals are my favorite birds :) ) Congratulations and Toot, Toot! times 8.

Another UFO completed. I did most of this a year ago and kept putting off adding the feet and eyes. Glad it is finished - such an easy finish - don't know why I kept putting it aside.

Finally ready to toot my own horn...my UFO mini is done. Not perfect by any means, but done! That's a quarter in the corner. It's about 12 1/2 by 15 1/2 inches. I quilted it by machine in straight diagonal lines. Thanks to the pattern, I didn't even have to lift the needle to complete the inner portion. Just pivoted the piece around. Loved it.

A toot toot to Janice, our fearless conductor! Love your doll quilt! I have found minimal quilting is best for these smaller ones and the diagonal quilting is so quilter friendly, isn't it?
|
Toot toot Janice!
|
Very nice, Janice! I can't imagine being able to get all those tiny HSTs to behave. Good job!
Rob |
I just looked at this closer...if you extend your diagonal lines into the border you don't have to quilt it separately...I like to use a hera marker and ruler to extend those markings.

Whooohoooo .......... great finish Janice.

Great work, Janice! I often feel like the mini quilts take me three times as long as a lap quilt!

Great Mini Quilt Janice
|
Janice, that is beautiful! Great movement and color play. I wouldn't have the patience to do it and have great admiration for the wonderful work you've done with this mini.
|
Janice, nice mini! TOOT TOOT for you!

Everyone, congrats on all the wonderful finishes! Great inspiration.
Here's a finish for me, a practice quilt I had started years ago and got frustrated with. Decided to use it as a learning project, finish it, and pass it off. The 8 yo girl next door likes it and basically asked for it. What can I finish quickly for her younger sister? Hm-m-m I know I have something around here... All2Pieces, love the fabric in your quilt (post #897). I can see why your neighbor wanted it.

Question? Is 'putting a UFO in a box marked "probably never finish" ' acceptible for the challenge? Then I know what to donate/finish&donate when the need arises? |
Great Doggie Quilt
|
We make our own rules here, but IMHO you are making a decision about the UFO and when it's out the door it's gone....

Welcome petthefabric! As oksewglad said we make our own rules here and no one is going to toss anyone out or hit them with a PIG (project in a bag) for doing things their own way. :)
For my own self, if I intend to get rid of the box marked Probably Never Finish once it is full or once I have sorted my UFOs, then I would count them gone. But then I would not call it Probably, I would call it Pass These On. LOL. If I intended to keep the box, and maybe finish them one day, to me they would still be UFOs; they would just be very low on the priority list for finishing. And believe me, I have a few of those. OK, more than a few. LOL That is just how I do it. You are free to do it any way you want to. When I gave one of my UFO's to my Sis-in-law, I counted that as a finish. It was gone from my pile! When I took a UFO with only a few blocks done, I turned it into a tablerunner and re-stashed the rest of the fabric which I had not cut yet. Another finish! A UFO doesn't have to end up what it started out to be. If you have a UFO you might want to repurpose but are not sure how, or what, don't be shy about putting it up here with a photo or two and asking for suggestions. We are very helpful and creative..... especially with everyone else's UFOs. Hugs and smiles and whoooo whoooo... welcome aboard this train! |
All2Pieces...congrats on the finish. It will be treasured by that little girl.
|
All2pieces-- nice finish! And welcome aboard!
petthefabric- they're your UFOs and however you decide to finish them is up to you. I've had some UFOs that I took off the pile, cut into smaller pieces and turned into pot holders-- in my book that's finished even though they started out to be a quilt... some folks have donated quilt tops and for them that's a finish... Anything that gets it off the UFO pile and out of your hair works as long as you consider it finished:thumbup: and welcome to this thread-- it's been very helpful for me, though I think I'm destined to be a permanent member due to my creative process:D Rob |
What I actually did was follow the pieced border seam to travel to make the two outer quilting lines. I messed up and had to redo it so I had to lift the needle, otherwise it would have been done with no needle lifts. But considering it was my first time trying that as well as using a much lighter thread than the border, it's hardly noticeable.
Am VERY happy to report that I spent quite a few hours over the weekend working on another UFO. It's a set of 12 blue and yellow 9 1/2 inch unfinished blocks from, oh, 2003 maybe? Maybe my second BOM at a LQS that's now out of biz. In any case, I've got 2 more to quilt and then i'm going to use Sewbizgirl's QAYG tutorial to turn those old blocks into a small quilt. Holy cow. How easy it is to quilt a small block like that if I'm just doing straight lines. So much better than the FMQ I've repeatedly failed at...but I'm not completely giving up on that yet either. But for now...MAYBE I'll have another finish before May. Fingers crossed!

That's a beautiful mini quilt, Janice!
All2Pieces, how sweet that your young neighbor spoke up about wanting that quilt. Great finish! |
That is an adorable mini Janice. Yippee!!! You got another done.
All2pieces. love the doggies. I have yet to make a courthouse steps log cabin. I have some scraps that need used, I just may. Great job. I did finish two more tops this last week. Just not quilted and bound yet. Had implants put in mouth so been a little out of sorts and did not want to get on the machine and sew over my fingers, been there done that. I just did a little embroidery and slept. |
Welcome aboard, petthefabric! I was just looking at your quilt on the improvisational quilts thread. It's an impressive quilt. Very creative work.
|
Toot, Toot! A2P. Lovely work. Congratulations on your fine UFO finish. That's a lucky little girl and apparently so will her sister be very soon, too. :)

Well, now there's a question! Lol. I think I'd have to give that question a big ole NAY as an answer. WHEN you actually do donate them or get rid of them in some form, then we'll count them as "finishes".

Thanks for the input. I think it's still a UFO, very low on the priority list and might even drop into the "get rid of it" box.
|
I wonder why the box got labeled "probably never finish", petthefabric? Is it the fabric, the color combo, the pattern, the construction??? How about you post a picture here and let us help you fall in love with the project again. (Or we may agree that it is not worth the effort, although that is unlikely.) Remember, one person's ugly is another person's pearl of joy.
|
Just a few days left in this month. Can we get a few more UFO finishes??? I hope to have one. Anybody else? I KNOW somebody in this group has a UFO just waiting for a little bit of work to call it done. If that's you, pull it out and give it a little love so it becomes a finish!!!
Got to keep this train rolling along! |
OK. I've got one pin basted and ready to quilt. Maybe after I meet a deadline. We'll see. No promises.
|
I have two pinned and ready to quilt. I am waiting for the return of my machine from the factory repair center. :( They have had it three weeks so I am hoping it will be returned soon. Keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm feeling very productive this month. I finished 4 UFOs, plus two other quilts. They don't count because they were actually finished on schedule :) And I just need to sew the binding on one other. I still need to take a couple of photos, but here are two of my UFOs for this month.
 |
Excellent, kristakz! Toot, toot and congratulations for your four UFO finishes! I really like the colors you chose. I'm curious about the sizes. I'm guessing the top one is a lap quilt or wall hanging?
Great job adding four to our count. Look forward to see pix of the others as well.

Krista, congrats on the finish. I like the colorway and the layouts.

Fun quilts, Krista. I'm trying to finish one...we'll see how it goes...
|
Very cool quilts, Krista! I love the aqua with the neutrals.
