anne2016, so bright and cheerful ...... congrats on the finish.
|
Sophie, that's a perfect thank you gift.
|
Sophie2...I like the colors in your quilt. Great thank you gift.
It's nice to hear of people caring for their neighbors. Your MIL is lucky to have such a good neighbor watching out for her. |

Anne2016- I love this quilt! Well done. The colors just pop!
Sophie2- What a wonderful thank you for checking on your MIL. She's lucky to have him for a neighbor. That's how neighbors should be. Your pattern and colors are perfect for a man. Well done. |
Anne2016- great finish, and love the story to go with it. Well done!
Sophie2- absolutely- that's a lovely way of thanking a wonderful neighbor! Rob |
Great job, Sophie2! Congrats on your UFO finish! Toot, Toot![ QUOTE=Sophie2;7850606]This isn't a really old UFO, but it is done. It has only been on my pile for a year. I hope to have the binding sewn down on a quilt before the end of the month. I just keep plugging away. I have also finished a few things that were not UFO's.

What a lovely memorial quilt! Would you consider this a "finish" or a "UFO finish"? If it's a UFO, something that's been around a while, I'll add it to the tally. Thanks!

Anne, love that you put in all that time and effort on a quilt you weren't too fond of. Well, It's a beauty! Congratulations on a wonderful UFO finish! Toot, Toot!

This quilt has been around since about 200?. My piecing was bad and my quilting was worse. The quilting was bunched and way too tight. Fast forward a few years and I decided to remove the machine quilting block by block and hand quilt each block. Got over half done and decided that was enough for me. I put it in a box and stored it away. Another couple of years and we moved. I downsized and thought I'd give the quilt to a guild or some organization that would finish it. But I liked the colors and even the piecing wasn't THAT bad. I took a pic of it and decided to try to sell it at a cheap price when my move was complete. I did post it to an online place and had a person inquire about it. By this time I had forgotten that it wasn't quite finished. I searched for the storage box but could not find it. No trace . It was a very stressful time and I figured I had changed my mind and sold or given it away before moving. Last year my sister mentions that I have 2 boxes stored in her basement...omg! I had forgotten those. I think you have guessed by now that the quilt was in one of those boxes. I took it out and this month I finished the hand quilting. Now it is finished.

What a kind thing for you to do. :) Do you consider this a "finish" or a "ufo finish"? Please post and let me know.

After Christmas the neighbor returned from a trip and sent me a text stating that he hadn't seen her for a bit and wondered if he should check on her. She was staying at her other son's house, so all was OK. I thought it was really nice that he was watching out for her. I had this fabric around for some time and thought it would make a perfect "thank you" gift.

LOVE all the recent pictures! There are a lot of finishes happening. If you could do me a favor and let me know if you are posting a "finish" or a "UFO finish", it would be VERY helpful. Remember, "UFO'ness" is determined by you. For me, a UFO is something that's been sitting at least a year untouched. For others, it's less time, for some, more time. If you don't tell me it's a UFO or indicate a date longer than a year, I'm going to think it's a regular finish so please specify UFO. THANK YOU!!!
|
Janice C - my #1319 I would like to consider as a UFO finish as I have had the material and plan for about 4 years. Just got motivated when I needed a thank you gift. If you would consider it more of a finish, that is OK with me as well.
|
Janice McC......I consider#1177(Garlic Knots)a recent finish as it was started in early 2017 and # 1318 a UFO finish.
|
I saw the date in your #1318 post and added it to June's finishes. Thanks!

Sophie2, as long as you feel it is a UFO, it's a UFO. :) Congrats on your UFO finish! Toot, Toot! (

Barbm, my apologies...I missed your two finishes (post #1224) for June. One you simply moved to a new home...that's a finish. And the second was the lap quilt for your granddaughter. Congratulations and Toot, Toot for your UFO finishes!

I've caught up on all the posts here, going to join you. Haven't been on the board in over a year or so. Still quilting but need some incentive to get those UFOs under control. Not sure how many there are- I keep them in a cubby in my fabric area. I did complete one- by boxing it up with the backing fabric and sent it to my friend in FL (I am in PA). Take that you stupid UFO. I made a queen, throw, beach bag, tote and purse for a fund raiser this year so I'm ready to attack some stuff. I'm taking a class on how to use my long arm next week so the goal is to finish up 3 tops I have waiting to be quilted. When doing the fund raiser I cut out 3 other queen size quilts (they didn't seem happy enough for the fund raiser) so I don't want them to become ufos, so I will make them up (one will be taken apart to become scrap fabric, I really didn't like it). One is sold and I want one for my bed. I also took a lap size quilt I made 2 years ago and added more quilting to it and my granddaughter's name so that's a UFO gone! (forgot to take a pic). First to finish some baby gifts for a shower this Saturday... keep posting, loving your finishes!
|
OK, Train Riders...I think i'm all caught up. I picked up an earlier missed post that gave us two additional finishes. That's a relief. I let the tally get away from me. I believe we're back on track. (See what I did there?)
BTW, if anyone spots a mistake in my tally or your UFO finish goes unacknowledged after a long period of time, say a week or more, do not hesitate to pm me and set me straight! LOL. Thanks to everyone who is continuing to work on their UFOs. Me, I've come to a screeching halt on mine, so close to the finish. Life just kind of comes up and bites us in the fanny every once in a while, doesn't it? |
Wow! Fabulous finishes, everyone. Rob - your piping is great. I found a method to do a "faux" piping where the entire binding is done by machine -- my kind of stitching! The binding was cut in two contrasting pieces with one being wider than the other. Sewed together and pressed in half. Then sewn to the back. When folded over the quilt, the "piping" showed. When sewed by machine, the stitches were hidden in the seam. Apparently this kind of technique even gets by the quilt show police.
As for me I have two finishes. Will be back in a sec to post pics. |

Here are two more finishes. The first is made of swap blocks I participated in early last year. The second is my very first string quilt made when I first started quilting 6 years ago. I packed it away and had forgotten it. The first is a gift to someone on another board, the strings is a charity quilt.

Wonderful finishes and stories to go with them, anne2016 and Sophie2!
|
Belfrybat....Congrats on the 2 finishes! I really like the string quilt. Lovelybackground color and the string blocks look great.
|
Belfrybat, nice finishes.
|
Nice finishes Belfrybat!
That faux piped binding you described sounds like it might be similar to the flange binding that I've seen mentioned on the board. I need to see a tutorial to really understand how it works, but I have to say if it allows you to complete the entire binding by machine rather than having to do all that hand sewing I'm all for it. LOL Rob |
BFB ~ Lovely finishes! :)
|
Congratulations on two pretty finishes, Belfrybat! The string blocks really pop on that background.
|
Toot, toot Belfrybat on the two UFO finishes! I really like the setting of the first quilt. Nice work. Congratulations. :)

I really like all of the finishes this last week.
I'm beginning to believe my RWB and snowman table runner will be finished early next month. I'm really working on completing my log cabin and Bonnie hunter mystery quilt tops first. I finally have all 80 blocks made and know how I want the quilt laid out. Yes, I had not a clue what pattern layout I wanted when I started this project over a year ago. During this weekend I plan to complete all 4 projects during the VQA which starts tomorrow. |
You are all doing so great. I am recovering from the summer crud which has zapped all of my energy. Recently I gave up on the dosing cup for cough syrup. I just chug it out of the bottle. lol It is getting better - slowly - but the energy is still low. Hoping to get some sewing time over the long weekend.
|
I've been lurking around here not saying anything just enjoying everyone's finishes for the month. And they are great, every last one of them. All of them are so pretty. I just had to come alive when 'happylab,' mention the VQW and I am looking forward to it also. All my visitors are back home now and the apartment is all clean. So I can do whatever I want to do. I have one that I am hand quilting. It may be considered a UFO and the Craftsy pattern that I was fussing so about to work on. I just might work out a backing for another UFO. Once again everybody your June finishes were pretty.

When you sew your strips end to end, just make sure that when you sew them together lengthwise that two seams don't meet at the same place.
The binding is cut 1-1/2" and the piping is 1-3/4. That way, when you press in half, 1/4" of the piping will show. This is a non-video tute for those of us who need to read the instructions (like me). http://www.lvqg.org/media/2a7a5a699c...02ffffe415.pdf |
Thank you ever so much. That makes sense. Will check out the other link you provided. I will be trying this on the next new quilt. I have lots of UFO tops to finish but I have the bindings ready for all finished tops....always make the bindings once top is done.

Thanks for posting both tunes Belfrybat. I think I'll have to try that one next time I want an extra pop at the binding---Doesn't look as difficult as I'd imagined, except for trying to stay in the ditch LOL

Yeah -- I have problems with staying in the ditch. I just bought a new foot that is actually a joining foot but was told it worked great for staying in the ditch. We'll see....
ETA: sorry about the size of the pic -- it should have been much smaller! |
Anybody have any June UFO finishes that can be added to the tally? I'll post the count on Wednesday.
Happy Independence Day! |

I have three finishes for July. They are all small projects that I have had the supplies for awhile, but just around to doing them. Since I didn't start them until July, except for the snowman coasters, I will count them all as finishes and not UFO's. I have UFO's to finish, but my machine I use for quilting is still at the shop. Maybe in August.

DebJ...your memory quilts are wonderful! Very creative. The quilting is great too. You put a lot of time and energy into creating the designs. My favorite block is the one with the photo of the woman holding the toddler. I like the depth perception. Also like the 'flower' photo and the overall modern look of each quilt. Beautiful work. I would like to know a little about how you designed them.

I just finished another UFO - a Christmas table runner. I've been having problems with my machine lately so not getting the quilting done that I had hoped to accomplish. I'm sending two more UFO's out to be quilted this week so will post pictures when I get them back.
