Pain can also bring up your blood pressure. It is a vicious circle! Motrin is not Naproxen it is Ibuprofen. Aleve is Naproxen and I've heard of dangerous side effects from this. I am on Lodine. It is an NSAID prescription I got from my dr. It is similar to Voltaren and Ibuprofen and doesn't mess up your stomach as much. It worked quite well for years but now my body has gotten used to it and so we are looking for something else to try. You can't be on these forever or they stop working.
I must have heard it wrong about Motrin but I'm glad to have all the advice and suggestions. I think it benefits everyone. I would had never thought of hot wax. And Watkins...man they've been around for years! I remember my grandmother using it. Not the linament but the other like flavorings and such.

Thats is one reason I love this site, we all are willing to help each other no matter what the issue is. I don't think we could find that anywhere else on the net...or living around us in person.
Kathy, I sooo agree with you about everyone's willingness to help. It's awesome! :)

I had "trigger thumb" once and the Dr. said it was from" overuse." I had been trying to reach a deadline for an exhibit and was working on a quilt everyday. Once the thumb problem was corrected, i don't work on a daily basis. I love hand quilting, so I'll quilt for maybe 2 hours and I'll skip the next day. Now i like using a glove. Guess it's like chicken soup, but try it.

I must remember about the Epsom salts, for myself and my DH. I think he takes way too much Aleve. I don't like it because it messes with my brain. I'm on Lyrica for my neuropathy pain, but I try to cut back when I can. Sometimes I feel like I do more chemical warfare now than when I was sick!

Wow! Many, many thanks to all of you for responding -- I am off to CVS for the epsom salt cream and Biofreeze. I hate to give up my handwork. You guys are great!

My aunt uses WD40 for her arthritic knees. She swears by it. I am not recommending it, just telling you what she does. I have seen it discussed on the internet though.

When I worked at a factory, sewing mainly sports clothing. At least it used to be, anyway there was hardly a machine table that didn't have WD40 setting on it. Most used it for hands and elbows. I never used it as I was a LOT Younger then but they swore by it!!

You can also try Absorbine Horse Linament (Spelled it wrong!!), I get it at the feed mill. Pretty stinky, but works..there's also an absorbine JR for people...I like the full strenghth better! Must be why most people call me Mare rather than Mary

Oh yeah..also wanted to say that I am also on HBP meds..but I do use Aleve once in a while..I've had back surgery too, and sometimes that's all that helps short of narcotics..but I only use it for 24 hrs. The doc said its the prolonged use that boosts your BP. Everything is a tradeoff. Vioxx was my favorite..until they decided maybe they hadn't done enough research to know it could mess up your heart. (its in the same group with Celebrex, which can also screw up your stomach!!) I guess the cure is worse than the pain..as it seems to be with most meds! Keep experimenting..you'll find something that works for you :-)
