But does anyone know anything about the 501a? I almost bought one this weekend, but I passed on the machine. Now I wish I had bought it. I looked up the 501A on google and it is called a "Rocketeer." It actually is a pretty cute machine.

There is no such thing as a 501a, its a 500a. I used to have one and I never did like it; my family said it made me cranky. I eventually sold it to someone who loved it. I was too used to the more modern zig zag machines that don't have cams. I do love my featherweights and treadle machines.

This is the cabinet and machine I got from CL this summer while I couldn't cut and sew worth a darn. I did succeed in oiling the machine and wiping out the cabinet.
My machine is black. I am keeping my eye out for a second one for my sister.

The machine I looked at Saturday did say 501a on the front under the Singer Badge.

I found a machine when cleaning out the attic of the house we just sold. It is a White Model CB Deluxe Precisioin Sewing Machine in a carrying case. When I took it out of the carry case (a white one) I saw that it says Made in Japan underneath and has the following idenification:
LA 19.NA.3346
on it towards the side at the bottom of the part that fits in the carry case. It is a light metallic blue. I will try to put a pic with this message. Can you help me ID it further as to its age and anything else you might know about it?

Yes, it uses cams. But she never used them. She made western outfits, jeans, you name it, never used the cams. Over oiled it once, or so the repairman said, still will sew anything she throws at it.
