Yay! I just finished trimming my little rascals, I mean HSTs! Nice to finish clue 1 earlier rather than later.
Lots of scrappy, I used 25 neutrals.

Here are my Clue 1 HSTs... some are kind of boring but I was trying to use what I have. I have tons more scrappy neutrals so I'm glad we will be using them again. Using as much stash up as possible.

Very nice! Not a boring one among them. I'm going to try cutting again tomorrow.

Tweety2911, you and I are using the same grey! I just started cutting and piecing my triangles today. I have always washed my fabric and this time I was just going to throw caution to the winds and not wash. l but I chickened out and washed the neutrals and grey yesterday, so I'm behind most of you. I need to look at the instructions for posting photos again so I can post my progress too.

    Default This is so exciting!

I love, love, love everyone's fabrics and I am happy to be part of your group.

Wish I could go all scrappy, but I'm a new quilter... ie, not many scraps yet... and I live high up (12,000 ft) in the Andes mountains in Ecuador, so fabric choices are VERY limited. I finished clue one and am ready for clue two.

My blacks and neutrals are varied because I had several prints in both, but my other colors are constant. I am a little worried about my gold because it is a large patterned fabric with a lot of red in it. It was the only thing I could find and I bought extra in case I need to cut out some of the red and only use the gold. Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Tracylynn, I think your gold will work if you avoid the red areas as you mentioned. There's plenty of variety in the gold. But you'll have to watch out for those white chickens. LOL It's so fun to be quilting with people around the world.

With that being said, if you're going "scrappy" do you add in neutrals as you go? Or do you start with the specific number you're using from the beginning and for each step use a mix of those? Does that make sense? I'm just thinking that some of the scraps I'm using to start I may run out of before I'm done with neutrals....
On GI last year I started with only what I had in my stash, then as I ran out, I would just get 4-6 half yard cuts and keep going. I ran out and added more several times. You are making part of a block with each step. So adding more fabric in later steps, it will still be spread out over the entire quilt because the new stuff will still be in every block. I loved this freedom. It was my first time working that way and I think it turned out great.
