I have had my grandmothers treadle for the last 30 years sitting doing nothing. Since this thread started it peaked my interest to check out its birthdate. I was surprised to find out it is from 1910. I do remember my grandma sewing on it when I was little. I ordered the manual and am going to try to sew something on it, but am guessing it is not easy to sew using the treadle.
I also have another singer in a cabinet and also an old featherweight that was my grandmas too. Will have to go down and haul them out to see how old they are. None of these machines were used for more than mending as my grandma didn't quilt.
Thanks so much for this topic and I will continue to read with interest (and hopefully learn something along the way)!

Hey, look at this long arm for sale on m CL. Though that cloth around the middle of it is a red flag. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/atq/1763337034.html

I was born in 1957. Seems like Sharon was a very popular name in the 40s and 50s.

My favorite treadle machine is a Singer 201 that was born a hand crank. Here's her picture.
