***GASP*** My spousal unit....the man I married almost 13 years ago...the man of my dreams... just called me a... a... a..... HOARDER!!

I told him that I would be working on that tomorrow...starting with HIS salt and pepper shakers and HIS Budweiser steins...not to mention his tools, fishing and camping stuff...

That should leave me plenty of room for more sewing stuff!!

(He was teasing me, btw...he didn't mean it)

What is the difference between collector and hoarder? I would think a collector is perhaps a selective hoarder, and a hoarder has gone around the bend into a mega-packrat?

I think hoarder's lives are made worse by their stuff ( filth, dirt, unable to walk through house, unable to use anything they own, stuff getting damaged by how badly it is stored, etc) Collector's lives are made better by their stuff. (friends, fun of searching, researching, and using collection, some though into how things are kept or displayed, and a home that is otherwise functional.) Just my thoughts. i have relatives who have the mental illness of hoarding, so I am unfortunately very aware of the costs to the family, and of how miserable the hoarders are. But thats how I distinguish between the two! Laura

A collector I saw on tv had 5,600 plus dolls - it was a couple. They considered themselves collectors but I think they've gone around the bend with the doll collection! Now my kids would call me a hoarder but they like living here and eating good so mostly they're silent about the size of my herd of machines.

Charlee,

Gasp! Gasp! A hoarder in the midst of all these enablers.
