I see them every now and then, but don't know yet how to identify which are 'real' singers, versus fake branded singers, which are in good condition, which models, etc.

I'd be happy to pick up machines and ship them to people, but I really have to know what I'm doin. There are some amazing vintage machines down here going for a song. (or at least, it seems to me that they're going for a song!)

I just gave $20 for a 15-91. Works good, but the cord is cracked so I'm going to replace it..myself. If you were closer, I'd let you have this one. I have no real attachment to it, when there are others I'd like to have more. But not shipping it. LOL! HEAVY!!! I will grow into it, I'm sure. Gave her a good drink of oil so she can soak in it until I have the house alone and can play again. Wondering if I need to put a ground plug on her?

Well Glenn if your shuttle says Davis you should be good to go!

No it is not a vertical feed if it has feed dogs. I tried to find a free manual on line for the Pathfinder, but didn't come up with anything for that machine.

Maybe, someone else has a manual or knows where you can get one for the Pathfinder?

Nancy
Nancy, I have two free machines. I don't know if they are called Pathfinder or not but I do have two manuals. I am posting a picture of the machines from the manuals so see if your looks like one of these.
Trish, it looks just like that one but I won't get the Free till Friday! I can't wait to see her in person! I will post pictures when I get her home.

Around here the FW's sell for about $300. You will be lucky to find one under $250. This is why I am keeping my white one under wraps right now!

A new one came home with me today.

A little back story I have been going to this thrift store for a few weeks. Every time i go there I see this sewing machine. But it was to much money i thoight.

Today they reduced it so I couldnt leave it

its a singer 27 made in 1897 (I think cant find the slip I wote on)

It was modified for electric but I took the motor off. It was in a reg sewing table but I want it for treadle.
Hubby wouldnt let me bring the table home cus we have no room so I took the things that hold the machine in so if I ever made a treadle table.

Now you ready for how much!!!
it was originally 8.00$ but that was to much cus I didnt need or have room for it.
Then it went down to 5.00$ but I still didnt buy it cus it was not something I needed. lol
Today I walk in it and it was 1.00$!!!!!!!!
I couldnt leave it at that price! Its decals are a little worse for wear but the head is in doog shape working wise
And they had the arm pin cushion on it so it has pin scratches and pin wholes!
She came with 2 shuttles and 4 bobbins. Dont know what I am going to name her yet

So after a book about her here are the pics lol

Trish this confused me until I realized you were thinking the "Free Manufacturer" and I was talking about literally a free to download manual for Glenn's Davis Pathfinder. Wow, it seems there are a few model "Free's" around - you have two of them?

Time, once again for me to say--I really prefer the old, well-used machines for actual sewing. They are--in general--easier to sew on with a smoother action. Part of it is because they have been well-used, but the opposite it true, too. They have been well used because they were such great machines to begin with and were a pleasure to sew on.

I love fabric--the way it feels, the colors, the possibilities. I put a lot of mine in storage so I could clean out my basement. It's slow going, but I am making progress. And I must admit I love having the storage unit. My husband is afraid I'll never give it up.
Geeze, that would be something I would travel to get - a 3/4 size Pfaff? I have never seen one! Maybe, one of these days, I will find one of those! What a prize!

Even I, just starting to educate my self on Vintage machines,
had to laugh at the price.

I keep hearing that ... But WHEN does it begin happening????

I've had to search and search for the three vintages I've found. And everyone I've asked to keep an eye open for bargain machines is looking for them, too!
Just keep checking Craigslist, everyday, that's where I've gotten lots of good bargains. I just put "sewing machine" into the search box and the list comes up. I also check out the neighboring city's CL's.
I picked up two free cabinets and machine that way. One cabinet had a treadle and the sad looking Singer 9W1. I was on the lookout for a cheap treadle. So, I picked up the treadle even though the cabinet was a mess (which had 9W1). A couple of weeks later someone put out a free cabinet for an electric Singer machine. I took the legs off that and put it on the treadle. Saved the drawers from the messed up free cabinet to be used on other projects.

Just keep looking daily on CLs and go to garage sales.
