I posted her picture in the photo shop too! The machine behind the FW is my Singer 15-88 treadle.

Way cool, Nancy. Great deal to find both table and machine. Very very nice. You'll love it...and that lady will enjoy her $125. Not bad all in all...

Oh...and back to IrishRose... yes, the prices on the featherweights at the shopgoodwill site can be great. BUT you do run a risk in shipping. If I were ever to buy another machine, I'd CALL the Goodwill and make sure they pack it right. Otherwise, they're tempted to just chuck the machine (in it's case and no additional packing) into a big box and wrap it in bubble wrap. That will trash the case during shipping and potentially/likely scratch and damage the machine. So there is a risk involved.

I wonder if any of the VSMS folks live close by the goodwill stores that are selling on the website. If so, perhaps they'd be willing to pick up the machine, and pack/ship it right. (Of course, being well reimbursed for doing so!).

I'm not interested in a FW at all. Just noticed the prices weren't too bad - especially ones called 'Singer sewing machines'.

I posted a pic of a Singer 401A and a 403A on the picture page so you can see the difference. They are pretty much the same. When I found my 401G in the trash it didn't have a manual... LOL so it took some time to figure out the cam stack. Now that I found a manual I found out most of the manual info for stitch selection is right on the lid.

She has some videos that show how to wind the bobbin and put it in the shuttle. Also, if you watch her 'Tea and Treadles' video, she shows how to use the foot pedal. Her videos are entertaining and very informative.

Lovely, I've only sewed on the 401A, for over 40 some years and it the best thing since "iced tea." My Mom bought it brand new back in the sixties for me and my late sister to learn how to sew on in high school and I have been left the custodian of it and I have had it maintance only a year and I try to remember to oil it a least two to three times a year and it has been good to me. Two years ago my middle DD used it to make everything that she used in her second wedding, but her dress. If you be good to it then it will be good to you.
