Billie, I just received my new 301 the other day and was playing around with it yesterday, (love, love, love it) but noticed that it has no on off switch. Is is better to unplug it from the wall outlet or the machine. Strange but my little featherweight has one, can't believe this one doesn't. I even read the manual and it states nothing about an on off switch. It's a really beauty with very little wear and case in very good condition. Sews like a dream!!!

A side clamp is refering to where the attachments(feet) are
screwed on. The older model 66 Singers were back clampers, meaning that the attachment screw was at the rear of the presser foot bar; the feet look very different.
Many of them were converted when the side mounted attachment screw type machines came out, so that the machines could use the newer feet.

Congratulations on your new 301. Can you tell us what color it is? I have a short bed black 301 and it sews like a dream.
Neither the 301 or the Featherweight have on/off switches. The switch that you are refering to on your Featherweight is to turn the light on and off; the light switch for a 301 is under the arm and its a turn knob.
Don't leave your Singer 221/301 plugged when not being used as it could potentially cause a fire.

I just bought a Featherweight on Ebay last night, I do hope she's as pretty when I finally get her as in her auction photos. I don't know whether I'm keeping this one or reselling it, its fun to get them cleaned up and all spiffy for someone else to enjoy.

Gosh Thanks for the info. I have a black 301A longbed. I was cleaning it out yesterday and started sewing than I heard a clacky, clacky noise and tore the whole bobbin area and changed feet and needle only for that noise to keep on. I was ready to take it to my ol sewing machine fixer upper guy. When I deceided to read the manual and read the part about if you take the guide off to make sure the bobbin pin is between the two notches on the guide. Well lo an Behold the noise stopped. It helps to read the instructions.

Got my featherweight last month, now I'm hooked on these ol girls. My little featherweight I pd $135. for from a friend who sells antiques. The decals where you sew are pretty worn on the front of the xtension table other than that she is in good shape. I did buy all the extra feet and a tension dial cause she did not have one. She was born in 1936 and runs like a dream. So at this time I have $200.00 invested. Including a clean up from my repair man. Still not bad. Yours looks to be in better condition. Good luck with her. Would give anything for a white one someday. Really need to stop spending for a while maybe I can have the family pool for Christmas for one. She will be at the top of my list.

I clean and oil Singers 221 & 301's for customers and I get many machines that have the bobbin case positioning finger out of place. I had a customer that was fairly new to owing a 221 and she was sure that she had broken her machine; she hadn't lined the finger back up under the throat plate springs after she had delinted under the throat plate. She was so happy that it was merely operator error.

Hi Billy,
This was a "curb alert" meaning free for the taking before being picked up as trash. It also had a dome cover with broken hinges and latches. The power cord had a lot of broken exposed wires so I didn't want to try plugging it in. So I used the cord from my 1

5-91 and she runs...pretty ragged but she goes. It's missing the bobbin cover plate but I remember a previous post where you can get a thin plastic sheet from a hobby shop and cut it to fit. The bobbin winder assembly is broken also. My main question is the receptacle box there to the right of the machine...I tried several times to get a better picture but they were all dark. There is one cord plugged in which I assume has something to do with the motor. Then there is a thin cord coming out from under the bottom of the box that goes to the foot control. The cord from the opposite end has been cut off....what was it for?? Also, where do I look for a manual for this machine...are all 66's the same??
