Cathy, bought the machine in NC last year. Won her on E-bay. She is in excellent shape :). Her house needs some repair but other wise she is good to go. Should call her Little Miss Dynomite b/c she sews so fast.

I think i'm gonna call about this one. Can anyone clue me in about this model? Is it worth it?

TIA
Jtapp9, I can't find the pages, but somewhere in this shop Billy talks about the Spartan. My first vintage machine - I found it at a yard sale for $5 - was a Spartan. When I asked about the machine, Billy told me that the Spartan is the stripped down version of a 99, but that it is now worth more as there are a lot less Spartans than 99's. He also said somewhere here on this forum that if I find one in a cabinet it is worth even more, as there were very few cabinets made for the Spartans.

It has a knee pedal that pushes up against the foot pedal which is attached underneath the inside of the cabinet. I can't get the pedal out. Is there some sort of trick to getting the pedal out of the brackets or do you think it is just stuck from years of non-use? I actually have several cabinets like this, with the pedal stuck in the bracket.
Congratulations on your new 301!

Kathie you did an excellent job restoring that cabinet.
Very NICE![/quote]

Thank you very much. I wish that I could take credit but I can not. I had it done and when it was delivered I thought that they brought the wrong cabinet. Kathie

I have heard so many good things about Featherweights I just couldn't pass this one up - btw, her name is Maggie. Funny how I new her name the moment I saw her pics...
Wow! Do you realize how hard it is to find a 222? Those free arm FW's are almost impossible to find, and if you do find one someone wants an arm and a leg for it!

Congratulations!

Trish, what do you mean it comes apart?

Is the machine threaded correctly? Is the bobbin threaded correctly - leading from the top and threaded in the slot in the bobbin case correctly?

Kathie, sometimes it is best to walk away and come back fresh - ready to start over. That is what I had to do for two months while I fought with my Betty (Davis Vertical Feed) until I finally got it working.

Nancy, I have rethreaded the machine several times with hubby watching me to make sure that is done by the book. I put in a new Janome needle. I tried using the old cheap thread, I tried using good thread and nothing helped. I am ready to throw in the towel. I may just take it into Ernie at Eand D and let them figure it out. Kathie
Have you checked if there is a scratch or burr on your needle plate? It will cause all kinds of birdsnests underside.
