I guess I am glad my kids are done with school because I really dont agree with that idea.

I'm not totally against techie stuff for the school children. That said, I do believe that the experience of reading a "real" book is something we do not need to lose. For me, just going to the library and picking out the book is an experience like kids go into a candy store. Most small towns have at least a small library and usually encompasses the county so books can be transferred from one branch to another. Anyone remember the Bookmobile???

Some of the best times in my grandchildren's lives is when they sit on my lap and I read to them. I have books from my sons' growing up years and now I read those to my grandchildren. I give books as gifts also.

I would hate books to go the way of Cursive Writing and being able to do Math by hand/mind. JMHO!!

Hi just did it. Go to your library web site and once you have downloaded overdrive it will prompt you. Easy. If u have trouble go to library and they will do it. I'm thrilled and can read anything for free even best sellers. Don't have to leave house. I'm a senior senior so if I did it u can too. Enjoy. Love my iPad!

Of course I am listening. . . I hope it is is a Kindle Fire - I sent a few web addresses to them - this is our code for the required Chirstms list

My DGD will read on her Kindle ($79) because it's light and small and fits in her purse. But she won't carry around a book. Toddlers and young children need the real thing with lots of colored pictures to be read with someone!

I have noticed over my life that people who do not read for the enjoyment of reading are not the type of people I want to be around for very long. They are so darn boring and usually not as intelligent as they think they are.

On the topic of kids learning to read... Kids need age appropriate reading material and someone to read to them.

Hearing someone read and using correct annunciation helps kids to pick up many of the tools needed for them to learn to read. When I was teaching my kids to read we took turns of them reading to me and me reading to them. Real books are great and techie ebooks should also work.

I'm loving the Kobo reader I won at a conference earlier this year! I usually give lots of books at Christmas and other celebrations too, and we usually share the books from house to house. That IS tougher with the e-readers. But the lending library system is wonderful - always find something fun to read.

I can see e-readers being just fine for teaching little ones to read - maybe except they won't like being poked and chewed
