I wanted to forward to you guys something that the RN that runs the lap band support group I am on:
//What level of calories are we supposed to stay under? No one has really said yet// That depends on your gender, how tall you are, how heavy you were to begin with, and what's your goal. For most women 1200 calories is a good level. Although while you're still heavy you might be able to eat a bit more. If you're real short 1000 might be enough. I almost never recommend less than 1000 calories a day. Men and people who are very active can eat more.
Here's the deal:
IF YOU ARE NOT LOSING WEIGHT YOU ARE EATING TOO MANY CALORIES.
So eat 1500 calories and see if you can lose 1 or 2 pounds a week on that. If not losing drop to 1200. If losing 3 or 4 pounds a week maybe you could eat a little bit more.
I found a note I wrote (from Terry Simpson, MD I think). It says, when people are not losing weight ask:
"What is the thing you do not want to give up?"
Personally, I always said I was willing to give up anything to lose weight. Then I had to prove it.
I really like being able to get full on a small amount. I never try to see how much I can eat. I know I can eat more than I should. I try to see how little I can get by on.
It's just a different mindset.
I'm glad I don't have to eat a bunch of food to feel satisfied. I have so many other sources of satisfaction in my life now.
Another thought: The reason lettuce doesn't have many calories is because there's no nutrition in there. It's mostly water. I can find more nutritious things to eat.
Besides, as the designated fat girl, I spent way too many years ordering salad (the fat girl should eat salad, right?) and paying $30 for a bowl of lettuce instead of ordering what I really wanted.
********
Interesting, huh? I really like the part about getting by with eating as little instead of eating until I am full. And like Jessie said above: It is just a different mindset. I think this whole diet thing is all about our mind and how we think about food, exercise and behavior.
Hmmm...interesting!

Last month I talked about the song from my children's Winnie the Pooh record. A line was, "Only mind over matter can make the Pooh unfatter." I think you just said the the same thing.
"What is the thing you don't want to give up?" Wow, the answer to that may the answer to why I am stuck at a certain weight. If MJ doesn't show up to give us our writing assignment today that quote may do it.
"What is the thing I don't want to give up to lose weight and become healthier?"
H-m-m, is it ice cream for me? Yesterday when I was considering the Kuran Diet, I felt it was too restrictive. Was I concerned about restricting vegetables or ice cream?? Do I have to answer that?
Rita's mom, I hear you on the hormones. Back in the day when I had periods, I was far from overweight, but I gained at least five pounds every month. Now I am still on HRT for various reasons - the most important is the headaches I have without it. I sometimes wonder if it contributes to my weight. Menopause was when I started gaining.
I am losing weight and getting healthier. Thank you, Missy for my thought provoker for the day. Judy

Thats interesting Missy. I like that part too. I need to get the mind set back that I had before I got off track. I am back to what I weighed on the first of the month. I have come to realize how much hormones effect our weight and our moods and mind sets. I am really thankful to be where I started the month because it could be worse! LOL I finally have a day without anyone here and I should be getting alot done today but to be honest I feel tired and lazy and just want to enjoy the peace and quiet.

http://www.rxlist.com/fat-fighting_f...es/article.htm I came across this when I was looking for a replacement drug that doesn't effect my balance like the Lyrica I'm taking. No luck. I guess I'll continue to be a dizzy redhead instead of a dizzy blonde.

I'm off to burn calories vacuuming. I hate vacuuming, but with white carpet and one black dog, it'a a given. Thank goodness for the AC. Then I need to plant the lily I bought last week. It'll be done quickly. It's too hot outside to stay long until after dark.

No, I'm not 74. The dark haired grandmother on the groom's side is. I'm old enough for now, thank you.

Today is Chris and my anniversary. I have been thinking about dinner all day. Trying to decide where to go and what healthy choices I can make wherever we go. I had just as soon stay home and have heated up rotissirie chicken, but that's me. Wherever we go, I WILL EAT HEALTHY!!!!! Have a good evening everyone. Sandy
