We, too, have plan F with supplemental coverage by United Health Care.
We will keep it forever, or as long as we can tolerate the escalating prices. It has been wonderful through cataract surgery, 1 back surgery, and 2 open heart surgeries (DH & me). Never have a co-pay.

There are many, many plans out there. If you can find one, there are people whose job it is to find you the best bet for your dollars. The hubby used one of these guys in Phoenix, he took all his info, conditions, medications, life style, travel (some state plans only pay within that state, there are even county only plans) typed in in and several policies popped out, we were able to go thru the different plans to see which fit the best, without having to look thru hundreds!! We ended up keeping our work-related plan, it still covered him. No cost for all the info we were given.

So, we pay around $99 for medicare and an extra $150 per person for the supplement which in our house amounts to around $500 per month for insurance...is that what others are experiencing? That doesn't make it free and doesn't make it cheap...especially on social security.
Would love others' input on this...
Careful here leighway......Medicare pays 80% BUT there is a yearly cap of out of pocket of $6000. So no bankrupt. and if you are paying $500/month, you are giving the insurance co the $6000 whether you spend it or not. I had lots of medical problems including cancer/surgery/treatments and never came near $6000 out of pocket. and that was just one year. I dont plan to have cancer every year (ha ha) so I will be keeping my $6000 for many other years while you keep forking it over to the insur co no matter what. I just pay the 99 that Soc Sec takes out & has a D plan for nothing.

Insurance can't change the plan from what it is. It goes Plan A, B, C, D, F, F+ G, K, L, M, N. All are different plans. M an N have foreign travel emergency included. If you didn't know about these plans before signing up, you need to find a consultant and get all the info you need to make the right decision for your health needs and will fit your financial needs in the future.

If I'm not mistaken, each state has a SHIIP program that will help seniors with which health plan works best for them. I think I'm going to check into it before the renewal comes up in October.

Interesting information. I will turn 65 later next year. I have a friend that has attended a meeting by our health insurance carrier and she has been sharing info.

Thanks for starting this thread.

we have Plan F with State Farm and it pays the balance of Medicare approved costs, deductible, we're out nothing but monthly cost - and my husband's had 3 major surgeries plus - only thing it doesn't cover is prescriptions, good anywhere, no networks, heartily recommend State Farm

We both have Medicare and BCBS thru where I retired from but we still have co pays. Should I look into Plan F?
