I'm in the same boat, making one for someone who has never expressed interest. that said, she is one of my very best friends and I feel it's my obligation even if she is just going to let her dog sleep on it

If your're not sure of whether she might keep it or not, and you wanted to give her something like that, why not get some fleece and make her a fleece throw, with the fringed edges. Then if it seems that she is going to keep it, you could make her a normal lap quilt for later. You would still be out the expense of the fleece, but not the time and effort of the normal quilt. Just a suggestion.

Sounds to me that she would be a perfect subject for some act of kindness. You may be pleasantly surprised and if not, you will have made an effortand that is always better than wishing you had done something later on.

Ditto!

Yes I would make her one. It sounds like she is at a crossroads in her life and we all know how loveing a quilt can be, She can cuddle up and take comfort that you took time to make it for her. A chance but I would do it in a heartbeat.

Follow your heart! That's the right way to go and I think you are going to make it. Please let us know what you do. This will make one of her days great!

I made a quilt for a cousin for a wedding. He later came up to me and let me know that their dog chewed it up and wanted me to make him another one. I let him know that it was a gift for their wedding. They aren't getting married twice. I didn't make them another one. I knew that they wouldn't take care of it. For you I would wonder what would happen if you asked her to help make a quilt? That way she would better understand what it takes as well as having that connection with family. Good luck it what ever you do.

I would. Make a simple one. I made a lap quilt for a dear friend who was starting chemo. He's tall, so I made it long enough to go from under his chin and folded under his feet. Did a strip quilt & backed it with fleece. He was thrilled.

My church ministers to residents of our local Wilbur D. Mills rehab center. It's been my experience that even the least little thing is appreciated.

I would, however, make sure her name is on it in more than one place.

I've found that my friends from the center need/love lots of hugs and a quilt is a good beginning.
