Right now I have three Janomes. Two are combo emb. the 9000 and the 10001, the other is a 3500 smaller that I take to classes and my quilt group when we meet. love them all and use them all.

I own a Bernina Artista 185 for sewing, piecing etc. a Bernina 220 for the same but much lighter and portable. I also own a Bernina serger which I use for part of the construction on my Linus quilts, a Singer Featherweight that is the same model that I learned to sew on as a child. I got it at a yard sale for $20 in mint condition. And finally two stand alone embroidery machines, a Bernina Deco 650 and a Brother PE780D. Both embroidery machines use the same format PES. My 185 is also capable of embroidery but I didn't get the module for that on purpose. I can be running embroidery projects on both embroidery machines while I am using the sewing machine or machines. I am an expert at multi tasking. I will admit that have a small fortune tied up in embroidery software. I will also admit that some of it has never been used.

Bearsigray definitely asked the right questions. I have three machines set up all the time because I can't find a machine that does it all for me. My Juki TL-98Q is set up with a walking foot or FM foot for machine quilting. It is fast, powerful and wonderful but it is only straight stitch. My Husqvarna #1 Plus is set up as it does multiple stitches and embroidery. Then I have my vintage 201 Singer set up with a buttonholer (I make a lot of bags, kid's clothing) and for mending DH's heavy coveralls. I also have a Husqvarna 360 Prelude with walking foot and lots of feet in a travelling case always packed and ready to go out to my quilt classes or stitching days with friends. My machines that are always set up are in cabinets and there is no way that I would consider dragging them in and out so that I could take them to a class. I also have a Singer 301 that I sometimes take to stitching days and my Featherweights. I also have a lovely 127 Singer in an fancy oak cabinet that sits in my living room looking pretty. Do I need them all? Probably not but I enjoy them and use them and don't feel one bit guilty about them.

You don't need lots of machines I have my main that suits me fine for embroidery and quilting and sewing than I have my small travel machine similar to your cs6000i that you can actually use for quilting as many have. More machines just means more of them to upkeep. Just cause lots of people have lots doesn't mean you have to

3 - a Brother CS6000i which I take to quilt guild (and I think it may be on it's last leg), a Singer 9600 Quantum in case I need it (), and a Bernina 780 which is a combination sewing, quilting and embroidery all in one. I use this one on a quilt frame with the Bernina QuiltMotion and Creative Touch Pad, I'm in love!

I have:

Viking Designer SE - use this one every day and love it
Janome 3160 - this is my travel and class machine - I sew with others 2 -3 time a month and go on 4 retreats a year
Viking Daisy - just bought this machine and I keep it set up for my friend that I sew with 1-2 times a week
Hinterberg Voyager 17 on a stretch frame for quilting

I feel very lucky to have all these machines and that they get used all the time.

This is so true. Some have many machines and use them all; some do all their work with 1 machine. It's possible to quilt without a machine. Some people still like to hand piece and quilt. I personally have an antique Singer 127 that works great but I never use. I also have an older Singer serger that I only use for clothes, a Brother SQ9000 for quick little jobs, a Brother PE-770 for embroidery, a Singer 15-88 that still lives at Mom's house, and a Pfaff Quilt Expression. The Pfaff gets most of the work because it is the only one set into a table and because it has the largest harp for machine quilting. I love all my machines, and I'm glad to have them.

just two. A Janome 6600MC and an Avante Handiquilter. I don't need anything else as I don't go to classes and such. I would consider adding a smaller machine if that was the case.

I didn't get a 'bigger' machine until 2010. Before that I had a small-throated, simple Pfaff.

But, since I joined this forum, wow..

Now I have two Pfaffs which are currently loaned out to 2 ladies--one lady is buying one of them, but the other I'm keeping as a teaching machine/loaner.

Plus,
1 -Janome Horizon (main one I use for sewing, quilting)
1 - Janome 12000 (got it second hand in January--mainly use it for embroidery big things)
1 - Janome 350E (got it second hand, use it for embroidery smaller things)

These three are set up in my sewing room--sometimes all three are going at once.

But I got a 1600P Janome for use on a frame my DH is supposed to make me. It is in the basement--waiting for that frame. I have used it some, just trying to get used to it.

It's mostly the influence of this board that "made me" buy all these machines. Actually, I'm really enjoying all three that are in my sewing room. Someday I'd love to have a treadle, and learn to use it. I just don't know where I'd put it.
