I took it off, and tried to cut along the "lines" of the fabric so that it "looked" straight. But once cut, the fabric wasn't straight at all. Think I will put it on as is.

if u dont cut it down so it looks straight u will always fret about it. Better to lose a little border and be happy with your finished product!

I went back and looked at the picture. I would leave it. I'd rather have a crooked line than off grain. If the blue is as pretty in person as the red, the color will make up for it.

It's VERY pretty which is why I've been hesitant to cut it down. But I ripped the seams and took it off and took a small piece of it and tried to straighten it along the pattern but it really didn't look straight at all when I laid it out against the the lattice. So I'm going to leave it. I'd rather have it a bit wonky..then to cut it down only to find it won't work, and then I'm out of this gorgeous piece of fabric.

Would it be possible to slice it up into squares or rectangles, put a tiny piece of black between the pieces and do it over and over again? It would break up the "line" and not be so noticeable.

It is a "busy" print and really doesn't look that bad to me. I think you are the only one who will notice it. My vote is for leaving it as is and just consider it a lesson learned for your next quilt.
Second choice: Ask the one you are sewing for their opinion.

Here is a pic with the border I ripped off sewn back on and the other side sewn back on. The blue fabric at the bottom is just laying there.

Leave it. She is so young that the quilt will probably get alot of use and she won't care one bit that it's off. You are very kind to be making it and shouldn't have to be stressed over that border. We quilters notice and stress over these things. Other people won't especially a 9 yr old.

It looks fine - I bet the little girl and her mom would not even notice it as an issue unless you point it out.

I'd leave it. No quilt is perfect. And I'm sure the little lady will love it just as it is. If you were getting paid an enormous amount, then maybe things would be different.
