mine was a child's machine that sewed a chain stitch. my cousin brought it back from hong kong for me (he was an air force pilot, whom i adored). i think i was about 7 years old. i still have it, and i'll be 63 this year. it got me started, and made many sets of doll clothes in it's life!

Mine was also a little toy sewing machine with chain stitch. I remember it was pink. Mum let me use her Singer soon after, it was one of those where you had to turn the wheel on the side. My sister has it now as I could not bring it when we migrated to Australia. I loved that machine.

My aunt gave me her old Commodore (kenmore precursor) when I was 8. I'm 42 now and still have it. My mom taught me to sew on her kenmore before that. I bought my first machine with my very first paycheck. it zigzagged and had fancy stitches. My Commodore is 69 years old and still sews strong.

a singer treadle-turned-electric when i was 6 and a necchi top of the line when i was 14. i literally wore that out when i was 57 and replaced with my new home (janome) and viking #1. my sewing machine repair guy is still laughing at what i did to that poor necchi.

my first was an old green metal one...I can't even remember what kind it was, just that it was green. I was 20 and moved far enough away from my mom that I couldn't just use hers. I used it for a couple years until I could afford a better machine.
