I was excited to see this layout as I like it very much. Then I realized that I don't think it will work b/c of the lopped off goose heads. Or Santa hats, which sounds much nicer, especially this time of year. Where the blog writer has theirs, the "hat" is in gold, which would be where Bonnie's red is.
I still think that the headless geese/Santa hat units will be cut in half. If you look at the unit next to the 4-patch in Fabadashery's possibility, you'll see something what that unit would look like. A HST with a square @ the bottom. For those using Bonnie's colors, the HST would be 1/2 red, 1/2 grey with a neutral square at the bottom. The red portion of the HST would be the one abutted to the large neutral brick.
I came up with this guess when somebody was talking about possibly string piecing a unit and how we'd been fooled by those string units that ended up being cut in half on the diagonal in a past mystery. Bonnie is very clever at keeping the mystery solution hidden. Cutting those hats in half would make the missing point - which will be even more obvious when the seam allowance is added - go away.

Everyone's units look wonderful! Won't these be beautiful quilts!
Finally I am done with clue #2. I also was able to cut my golds today and match with neutrals, so I think I may have a chance of actually finishing clue #3 before clue #4 is up (that would be a first for me, finishing a clue on time).
I'm kind of aghast at the thought of cutting the geese in half, as I chose those neutrals with the idea of the matched sets in mind. Some of them are quite dark, so I hope they work out!

Interesting guess, I really think there has to be a reason for the decap geese, and so far I haven't seen any guess that accounts for that. Unless w/ her layout she thinks there is going to be some "plus" or "cross" in the center, matching w/ the flat geese heads?????

I have missed a lot of postings and it's been fun catching up on my reading. All of the clues look great and it's exciting to see everyone's clues coming together.
I've been busy too and I love how it's coming together.

This clue took a lot of the neutrals.

Podunk - bluebonnets - Joe's Mom (good job catching up!) -- all of your fabrics are beautiful... all using, essentially, Bonnie colors - they will be so different but equally amazing quilts! Love seeing everyone's scraps!.. (and constants).
I know it might a red herring but I just don't believe Bonnie would have us make Headless Geese just to cut them in half... why not just make regular geese? The headless geese cut in half would still have a small 1/4" piece on the side that would have to be trimmed. Why would she have us waste fabric just to preserve the element of surprise?
The pieces will serve some very important part of the "tile" block but now I am thinking they will *not* be used to form part of any star shape - it's got to be something else, right?
But I have no guesses.
I know Bonnie probably reads her Open Studio FB page regularly but do you think she reads this board? She is probably having a good laugh at all the guesses which are most likely all wrong...haha!
Clue 4#will confuse us even more!!
