The month of July was a quiet one but some last minute finishes brought us to a total of 13 UFO finishes for the month. They came from Glojean48, Jaba, RetiredTeacher09, Wildyard, Petthefabric, Anne2016, Rryder, SandyinZ4, Sophie2 and Happylab. This brings our year to date tally to 171. Toot, Toot to all of you and to everyone who is working away on their own UFOs. :)

And Sophie2 has two more UFO finishes, the first and second of August. Excellent job of you getting such long term UFO's out of that dreaded UFO drawer! Toot, Toot and Congratulations! These fish remind me of some I saw while snorkeling a long time ago. :)

Yesterday we spend 8 hours driving. Gave me plenty of time to stitch the binding down and add the hanging sleeve to these to wall hangings. I have had them in my stash since the mid 80's. Nice to have more items out of my drawer of UFO's.

Another August finish. I did a lot of machine stitching in June/July knowing that we were going to be traveling and I would need some hand stitching to do. This has been a UFO for a few years.

Finished this one. It's a finish but wasn't a UFO. I started it in April. I cut and made all the blocks and then realized that half were to be joined opposite to the other half. Oh my! By the time I had it all straight, I was frustrated and hated all the light color that made up a lot of the top. I shoved it out of sight. I finally finished it. I gave it minimal quilting and put on the binding. It will go to the charity place that takes in women and their children when they decide to leave abusive relationships. It was a free Moda pattern called Frame of Mind.

anne2016, I like the look of that quilt. Thanks for sharing.

I think it does! LOL

When I think of how long I have had them in my UFO drawer, it reminds me to get busy on the rest of the items in my drawer. I purchased these fish blocks when we lived in Hawaii. We moved from Hawaii in 1993 and I know I had them at least 10 years before that. Does that qualify them as antiques?

Way to go, Sophie2! Congratulations and Toot, Toot for your UFO finish. It's beautiful!

It's a beautiful finish! Really love all the colors you chose. (I was all set to add it into the tally when i saw it wasn't a UFO although from the sounds of it, it could have been had you not overcome your frustration so quickly. Good for you!)

Such lovely UFO finishes everyone. I like them all.
I found out today, I'm getting back 2 quilted UFO tops from the long armer on Saturday. I'm so excited. I'm getting another quilted top back, but I can't remember if it is an UFO or not. It's really bad I can't remember what I gave her 2 weeks ago. I will just have to sew the binding on these quilts. I'll post pics when I have the binding sewn on the quilts. I will also give her another quilt top that is not a UFO to quilt for me. I just have to change 12 blocks to get the pattern I want. And put it back together and add 2 borders. I put my BHMQ 2016 together, but I don't like it at all. The yellow blocks overwhelm the design. So I'm taking it all apart and taking the yellow blocks out and swapping it with something else. Unsure what the other fabric is though. I reallly do love the pattern and most of the colors on her mystery this year. So I'm very motivated to get this top completed. Oh I finished my RWB table topper. Will post pic soon. Well that's all my UFO news for now. Happy sewing everyone. |
nice finishes Sophie and Angelanne!
Happylab- I've got an unsewing project to deal with too-- I forgot to trim my HSTs for the two July columns on my temperature Quilt before stitching them together and joining the columns to each other. I realized the problem last night when I went to attatch those columns to the rest of the quilt:eek:-oops, too much of a difference in length to be able to ease in:mad:. Hence I will be taking both columns apart, trimming the HSTs (all 62 of them -31 for July high temps and 31 for July low temps) and putting them back together. That should take just about the whole afternoon, sheesh.... Rob |
Rob, I feel your pain for the frog step. I have my blocks separated, just need to iron, and replace some and add some 2.5' blocks. This way the pattern should look the way I had intended. I really enjoyed working on this quilt. At least you are several months ahead of me on the temp quilt. I'm back in February. At least, I'm keeping track of the daily temps. Happy sewing.

I have been able to finish up a few more small projects this month. We did a 3 1/2 week driving trip, so was able to do hand stitching while DH did the driving. I got the pumpkin wall hanging a few years ago on a trip thru the Northeast. I found the pumpkin yoyo kit while I was looking for something else. Forgot I had them. Stitched them while in the truck. After we got home I was putting the yoyo pumpkins together and came across the snowman family that I had done the yoyos but never got around to putting them together. We are back home now so I think the "finishes" will slow down a bit. Feels good to get so much done this month - even if they are small projects.

Oh my! such fun-fun projects. Great finishes.
|
I love those snowmen and pumpkins!! It never occurred to me that you could do something with yo-yos like that. Congratulations on 8 finishes!
Rob |
Sophie2, congrats on finishing such cute projects.
|
Your snowmen and pumpkins are so cute. What a clever idea.
I have my blocks completed. Just need to iron and sew together and sew to the rest of the top. I cut out and sewed the strips together for my binding on my 3 projects. Just need to iron and sew to the 3 quilts. I consider 2 of the quilts small and one large. Hopefully next week I will have all completed. |
Good morning UFO'ers, thought I'd better add a voice to the thread, I haven't had an input lately. I have some sewing machine issues going in my house. So there forth not much being completed. I have a couple of charity projects that are in the sandwich stage. I have that Craftsy project waiting on batting. So, I've been doing some small alterations for my church family. I might as well say it, the 401A is still having tension problems along with the serge machine and one of the featherweight (1932). Thank heaven for the mid-century FW, or I wouldn't have a machine. but I really need to address one of those machine to being operative. Look like the OSM is going to get rich off of me for the next few months. It's like the ole saying goes, "your babies don't get sick until you can't afford to take them to the doctor." Well everyone have a good sewing day and every thing that you are posting looks gorgeous. Keep up the good work. Maybe next month I will have some of my issues resolved.

Sophie2, these are wonderfully fun UFO finishes! Like Rob, I never considered making yo-yos into little decorations like these. Great ideas! Toot, Toot and congratulations. :)

Glad to hear that Suzie is back and running.

After putting my UFO down for several months, I picked it up over the weekend and put the borders on it. I have a little more quilting to do in them but then it's time to make and add the binding. Looks like it will be finished for August. Finally!
|
Sophie!!!! Love those snowmen and pumpkins. So adorable.
Yipppeeeeeee Janice! Exciting for you. Nothing from me again. Between customer quilts and competition clothing, I have no UFOs to report. |
I finished my Royals UFO quilt and a snowman table runner. Pic and details will be posted soon.
|
A year ago, guild had a class on making a bag "ByAnnie". Nice bag, but give yourself at least 2 days to finish. Tomorrow (by 4 minutes) a classmate is coming and we'll try to help each other finish. Attempting a UFO.

I finished one last night and delivered it to the recipient today. He was so funny: Kept stroking the fabric and talking about how pretty it was. Finally I couldn't take it any longer and told him that he needs to open it up. He's been petting the back. lol This is a very chatty guy who got very quiet. I know that he loves it. He kept talking about where he was going to put it.

There's a pic of my r/w/b table runner. I started this 5 years ago. I had the blocks sewn all 1/2 sq blocks. I just needed to sew the blocks together to make blocks and border the runner. Then I stitched in the ditch. The pink place Matt I had to finish putting on the binding and I stitched in the ditch as well. I had started this over 10 years ago. I was practicing on my embroidery machine (I forgot how to use). Both projects are in my storage closet.both projects are UFO's.

This is a picture of me still putting on the binding. The recipient is shy, so no pic there. Holy cow, how many chins am I getting?

I did finish developing the pattern and making a sample. Current life gets in the way of UFO's. |
